Anyone going this year?

I had no intention of going to Leeds until last night, after a few beers, I was goaded in to going. Whilst pissed, I logged on to ebay and bid for a ticket. Waking up with a sore head, I checked my email to find that my bid of £150 had been successfull and that I had paid for it via paypal the previous night.
When sober, I checked the line up to see that 99% of the bands that are going are shite. I also discovered that the person I bought it off has had zilch feedback to go off and isn't responding to my emails. Is anyone else going? If so what bands are you looking forward to/would you recommend? There are plus sides of course, a weekend getting trashed with my mates, the oppurtunity to throw bottles of piss at Pearl Jam...
Thats provided the ticket arrives of course.

Had an awesome time but I cant be arsed relaying all my anecdotes/favourite groups etc. Muse were amazing and I got battered during Eagles of Death Metal but still managed to get my hands on a setlist.

Id kind of hoped theyd accidentally packed the pixies away with the stage, so when they put it back up the pixies would be all ready to play again
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 09/01/2006 : 04:50:39
Yeah shame they can't play there every year.

Glad you had fun homers, one year ago since the pixies!

Yeah he must have been injured.

Either that or he was having a wank.

He usually plays using the traditional Grip as opposed to the matched Grip, but this time his left hand was resting between his legs. I caught it on TV a couple of days ago and he only uses it on a couple of occasions for some very light ghosting.

Perhaps it was due to an injury, but it was cool none the less.

Are you sure it wasn't just how it looked due to his style? He plays like a jazz drummer, as that is his background.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs where great!

Did anyone else notice that Brian Chase played with only one hand
throughout their entire set?

Cool. Thanks for the review.

Sounds like the same guys that played on the record. Beatmaster V has this 1.5 second delay in his brain and sometimes it sounds like he's listening to a whole nuther song when he's playing. Hee!

With metal it has to be precise or it's not as intimidating sounding and that's the whole point. It should be, "Fear my scary, glistening, uber-engineered, hypersonic killing machine!! There is no escape and death will be swift and certain!!"

With sloppy metal, it's like about as scary as getting chased by a bunch of third graders with squirt guns, y'know? It's like, "AHHHHH, OK OK guys, you got me..."

Thank you for putting into words what I so often struggle to.

Yeah Yeah Yeah's were good this summer
Twillight Singers were ''so-so''
but Mark Lanegan did add much

btw, the line-up seems to be quite good

Any Body Count reviews?

I have the banned Cop Killer CD and I think of it as more of a comedy record than anything. It's funny to hear black guys try to pull off metal. Almost as funny as white guys trying to pull off gangsta anything.
Surfer Rosa Posted - 08/30/2006 : 05:28:50
My festival highlights:

Eagles Of Death Metal (or the Jesse The Devil Hughes Thigh & Ass show as it should be known)
Be Your Own Pet
Wolfmother
Coheed & Cambria - not a huge fan of their stuff, but they are without a doubt awesome musicians
Karen O crying while singing Maps
Gypsy punk silliness & jumping around for Gorgol Bordello - craziest I saw the crowd go for anyone the whole weekend
TV On The Radio - unexpected surprise as to how good they are
The Twilight Singers - another surprise highlight, I'd only gone to see Mark Lanegan
oh and rather obviously and quite predictably Slayer & Mastodon - good to see some proper heaviness on the main stage instead of the standard lite fodder it's been for a while now.

Yeah I saw that at a newsagents there. I was pleasantly surprised to see her on the front. She's a fucking nutter, but I love her for it.

There was a picture of Karen O at Reading with a weird mask over her eyes on the cover of last week's The Sunday Times.

I heard about this, but they certainly didn't enforce it.

Not sure where this was supposed to be. Unless it was just at Leeds.

Anywho, I had an amzaing time again.

Highlights were:

Gogol Bordello (one of the top 5 festival performances I have ever seen - absolutely fantastic, they went down a storm)
Broken Social Scene
Archie Bronson Outfit
Muse - What I saw of them
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Automatic - If only for their cover of Gold Digger
Dresden Dolls
Peaches
The Long Blondes

Be Your Own Pet
Tapes n Tapes

Reading And Leeds Stage Times

23 August 2006

You can start planning your Carling Weekend now thanks to organisers publishing stage running orders early. Just don't start planning any riots - because they're going to come down hard...

Click here for all the stage running times at both the Leeds and Reading Festivals, which take place this weekend (25-27 August).

The Carling Weekend is renowned for the dreaded 'band clash' syndrome, where you're often forced to agonise over your two favourite bands - Pixies vs Kasabian was a particular killer last year - so best get planning now.

Organisers Mean Fiddler have also issued a warning to potential trouble makers, following last year's riots at Leeds.

They are urging people to report anti-social behaviour and have warned that anyone starting bonfires, throwing missiles, or putting aerosols or gas canisters on fires will be ejected and banned from all future Mean Fiddler events, including Glastonbury.

There will be more camping staff and, in a further bid to prevent a reoccurance of trouble, Leeds will see more after-hours entertainment than ever.

Events are set to include a DIY Disco running from 11pm to 3am where campers can DJ for half an hour.

My ticket arrived this morning and the excitement is beginning to build. Just heard the Spinto band are going to be there who I wouldnt mind seeing again.
Now all I have to do is figure out where Im going to get my spending money from and pretend that I've been struck down with some mystery illness so I cant come into work (and then probably get fired).

Despite going for the past four or five years now I've managed to somehow avoid all the rioting/flaming shit/rape/pillaging

And yes Gogol Bordello is a must on my rather short list of bands that I care about seeing at Leeds
