Posted - 08/12/2006 : 06:13:34 I know there've been other threads on this guy, but I wanted some inspiration - namely, where should I start? If there's one record I should get, what should it be?
I've been aware of Daniel Johnston for a while, but have been listening to a song of his a bit in the last few days. On M Ward's new album he covers To Go Home, so I downloaded the original. It's kind of ramshackle, ropey almost, but it's pretty charming.
I know there's a big selection out there though, so what would you kids recommend?

Posted - 08/12/2006 : 12:42:39 Im also wondering where to start with Daniel Johnston. I managed to get a couple of songs of Kazaa which are both excellent (Fish & Mountain Top) but dont really know where to begin buying an album and Im pretty poor at the moment so I dont want to wind up buying a crappy one. Any suggestions?

Posted - 08/12/2006 : 06:50:58 If I have time I'll make a 3 pages long reply. Daniel Johnston is my hero. Meanwhile, I think you should check out Welcome To My World, it's a compilation they released last month I think. It only covers his early works but it looks like all the great songs are there. If you're not into compilations, my fave albums by him are 1990 (my absolute fave), Yip/Jump Music, Fun (his only album on a major), and Fear Yourself (with Mark Linkous). But I'm far from having all his records.
