i'm having an afternoon wedding (in one week!) so there won't be dancing. but there will background tunes. we are going to dance to nick cave's "breathless" and then leave. i/we love that song.

Thank for the current nominations. I'd love to get a band, or Irish fiddlers, but we're trying to do this on the cheap. Basically if you've got any songs that you LOVE to hear played at a party....maybe stuff that you usually don't hear, but would like to. |

Yup, I'm the groom, and we're doing the Itunes laptop wedding concept, to avoid the typical wedding DJ garbage. I'm open to any genre, but I guess the criteria is 1. Danceable (slow or fast) and 2. Semi-Appropriate(Not a lot of cussing). Funk will be represented, thanks. Any specific songs would be cool too. |

Are you the groom, Zsolt? Congrats if so.
In my experience weddings are the absolute worst, musically speaking. If you're the guy who's getting married you'll pay no attention anyway, but if you're just a guest it's better to forget all dignity and dance over the most terrible crap you can think of.
That said, we had mariachi followed by a tropical band at our wedding, so I can't complain.

I'm a big believer in the soul/funk having a big representation. It's danceable but not bland. Also, poll some of your guests - get a few songs the grandmas like, and some songs that the younger whippersnappers dig that you may not know of. The reality is that it is your wedding, so you have to approve of it, but also these guests are just that - your guests to the wedding. So, bend a little to what they want.
That being said, i've told my girlfriend when we get married i have absolute veto power on any song.

Wedding reception? Yeah, for frank something from DITS, nuggets... I like oldschool funk and r&b shit. bee gees, kool and the gang, rick james, jackson 5, sly and the family stone, marvin gaye, smokey robinson, Al Green, the Rascals, Funk Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, KC and the Sunshine Band, Earth Wind and Fire, Ohio Players, P-funk, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and maybe a little Beach Boys. Sounds like a party to me.
