Anybody else heard them? I've only got the first Kill Rock Stars release, with Movement (2003) in the mail, but so far I'm in love with the passionate vocals and the tough garage punk pop. Makes my foot tap so fast I'm leery of knee damage. Allmusic says they toured as openers for the White Stripes and Sleater Kinney, so somebody here must have seen them. They just gotta be a hot live act.

I didn't know Jack White was in the Raconteurs. I'll check them out, but my sound isn't working now.

I have not been that impressed by their album so far. I need to give it a few more listens. A couple of my friends watched them at Reading but said they wished they had come to watch Muse and Archie Bronson Outfit instead. They said they weren't bad, but not great.

They're alright, don't love or hate 'em. I'd check 'em out if they're playing in town.

I don't think I've heard the Raconteurs. Are they any good? They're playing a (free?) show here. Mabye I already missed it.

I haven't picked up on the White Stripes thing myself, not that that would be a bad thing. I like the Stripes, and now I'm especially liking the Raconteurs boots I've gotten. For me the Gossip is a little like Sleater Kinney with much more soulful, and palatable, vocals. I've ordered their Standing disc plus the ep I mention above, but it will be a couple weeks because the order is bundled with a disc that will be slower in coming.

Really? In that case Listen Up mustn't be a very good indication of what they are about.

Though I've had it for a couple weeks, yesterday I finally gave "Movement" a listen. (I do that, get a new disc and then wait till I'm right for the audition. You only get that first listen once so you gotta do it justice.) Blew me away! Love it! So now I've heard just the two discs, "that's not what i heard" and "Movement". Good fun, which means I get to sustain the novelty over coming months, creeping up on their collection. FYI, yesterday they released an ep of "Listen Up!" remixes plus. AMG says:
"On GSSP RMX, "Listen Up!," the ferocious centerpiece of Standing in the Way of Control, gets an EP's worth remixes from friends such as MSTRKRFT and A Touch of Class. As on the album, the original version of "Listen Up!" shows off the Gossip's sleeker, cleaner sound and new drummer Hannah Billie's chops, which make an even better foil for Beth Ditto's soulful, powerful vocals. This balance of fire and restraint makes the band's disco-punk leanings especially vibrant and convincing, even on the "Listen Up!" remixes. MSTRKRFT adds a tumbling bassline, ironic guitar solos, backing vocals and piles of percussion, giving the song a more playful, party-time vibe; Arthur Baker goes in an electro-disco direction, stretching the song out and focusing on Ditto's fiercest singing. A Touch of Class' eight-minute remix may be the most effective at taking "Listen Up!" in an even more danceable direction without sacrificing any of its rock bite. Their new video (Listen Up) is on MTV2 quite a bit. It's pretty good, the girls in the video are certainly wearing some cool t-shirts anyway.
I thought they were a very new band, but I found out yesterday that they have released an album previously, yet they look so goddam young.
Good to see a band can still make it without having a stick-thin lead singer.

llama, I hadn't even heard that new "Standing" stuff, and you're right. But more primal is the early "That's Not What I Heard". Such is nature of everything basic: a few albums on and the sound grows more refined. Forgot to mention that this waning week's free iTunes track is their "Listen Up", which I find marginally less slick yet more, if anything, engaging than "Standing".

Saw this and dug out a few tracks from the web. Have to say that I like them a lot...Standing in the Way of Control is a fantastic track. Kind of heavier and infinitely better Franz Ferdinand. Hope that doesn't put anyone off. They have a myspace page with a few tracks on as well.
