Posted - 07/24/2006 : 09:18:17 Here are a few albums that have gone over well for dinner parties I have hosted.
Manu Chauo - Clandstino (great for summer parties)
Charlie Hunter - Songs from Analog Playground (great when you don't know the musical tastes of all your guests..Charlie doesn't offend anyone)
St. Germain - Tourist (great for background sound) |

Posted - 07/23/2006 : 16:38:02 I've used Kind Of Blue before now. Most of my friends are stupid though, it's not worth trying interesting music on them.

Posted - 07/23/2006 : 16:25:15 I always think something without lyrics is good if I'm going to be there because if I get bored I will sing along. Badly.

Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool or Kind of Blue or if more daring Solo Monk by Thelonious Monk. |

Posted - 07/23/2006 : 12:56:02 I used to like the Nora Jones record but now it reminds me of cheesy restaurants. On the bossanova side, Gilberto Gil is nice. Also Nick Drake´s Bryter Layter, Tom Waits Heart of Saturday Night or Nighthawks at the Diner, David Byrne, Mills Brothers, Billie Holiday.

Posted - 07/23/2006 : 08:52:35 For dinners with friends I prefer mellow background music that doesn't interfere with the conversation, such as Ryan Adams, Damien Rice, Nick Drake or Carla Bruni. Honeycomb works as well.

Posted - 07/23/2006 : 05:24:16 I think I often put on some Low if I win over my better half - maybe some Maria McKee or Neko Case. If she wins then it's Norah Jones. Any Pixies is forbidden however.

Posted - 07/22/2006 : 17:14:58 I thought it was Damien Rice at first, until I realised thhe full horror of the situation. Bossa Nova sounds good.....I had the choice of the above or Reo Speedwagon., That's once I got over the embarrassmant of looking through their record collection in an effort to find something I could accept.
