GOVERNMENT ORDERS SPY BLIMP
Friday, June 16, 2006 - FreeMarketNews.com

The government has hired defense subcontractor Lockheed Martin to design and develop an enormous blimp that will be used to spy on Americans, according to the Athens News. Government agencies such as the NSA are anticipating that as early as 2009 the blimp will be operational and begin supporting new ways of monitoring everything that happens in the country.

A prototype of the blimp is already being developed at a cost of $40 million. The spy ship, called the High Altitude Airship, will be seventeen times larger than the Goodyear Blimp and hover 12 miles above the ground. Although it is very large it will be invisible to both the naked eye and ground radar because of its distance from the earth. Fuel economic and self sufficient, it will be powered by solar energy and will be able to fly for years at a time.

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command has already conducted a study to determine some of the uses of the spy ship. It has the capability of monitoring an area 600 miles in diameter at a time with surveillance equipment, such as high-resolution cameras. The government has ordered 11 of them – enough to monitor every parcel of land in the U.S.

True, they always did strike me as warm-hearted folk.

Meanwhile:

US claims it is 'ready' for Korean missile test

Staff and agencies
Tuesday June 20, 2006

International tensions over the testing of a long-range North Korean missile continued to escalate today with the Bush administration making plans to shoot it down.
The US's recently installed ground based interceptor missile defence system has been activated and may be called into use if the communist regime defies warnings over firing the Taepondong rocket, a US defence official told Reuters.

The official confirmed a report in the Washington Times that the Pentagon has switched the multibillion-dollar system from test mode to operational, after being in the developmental stage for years.

------------------

Prediction follows: Missle (ICBM) tested. US attempts to shoot it down. Probability of success, based on past missles: 1 in 9. North Korea wins decisive battle in fear-campaign. In the US, calls for better missle defense increase spending massively which is what the government wants anyway. Win-win (except for billions flushed down the loo)? In fact, they don't even have to shoot a missle, just say they did.

Alternatively, the ICBM continues unchecked and someone in Washington has their finger on the button.

Alternatively, ICBM intercepted, proving America is either lucky or has made significant advances in the technology. Other countries seek to introduce countermeasures or else bolster nuclear arsenals to maintain detente.

In other words, is this really a good path to go down?

This seems about as logical as hiring spying pigeons and commision a new spy hot air balloon. In other words, no more assinine than anything else the Bush administration has done.

Has the Athens News ever steered us wrong?

Satellites?

Pray tell, what are these devices you speak of.

The Hindenburg IV will be making it's maiden voyage and I plan to be on he first flight with my new fangled "Peanut Brittle" as a snack!

Why not use satellites?
