Does anyone have any superstition/s [An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome] that they would like to share?

For the record, I have none... that I can think of at the moment.

I'm not superstitious but as a high school golfer playing a tournament round, I became fixated on a broken red tee lying on the grass, beginning just after the first teeshot of the day. For the rest of the round I kept seeing these flashes of that red tee, to the point of becoming bizarre. Really stunk up the course that day. But later I gave myself a stiff talking to and never came close to anything like that again.

I have loads of little habits. Certain things you have to do, I suppose a lot of people hav that kind of daily ritual thing to a varying degree.

Hmmm, superstitions eh?

-I don't cross anybody when walking up/down the stairs (only applies at home)
-I don't walk over 3 grids in a row
-I wear the same hat and shirt to football matches, these change each season (exeptions are made for cup matches and away matches)
-When going to an away football match I have to take a packet of Jaffa Cakes if the distance is 90 miles or further

I probably have more superstitions which I can't think of at the moment.

Everytime I hear someone sneeze, I throw salt at a broken mirror.

Oh, I do that too. But then I counter it with 'now I've thought it, it won't happen' ... but then 'now I've thought that, it will'... after that, I usually forget it and think about something else.

I do the opposite: when I go to a concert I absolutely have to listen to all the albums of the band/artist in the CHRONOLOGICAL order. Then when I go to see our beloved Frank, Sonic Youth or Depeche Mode for instance, it takes some little time...

Apart from that funny one I have what we call in French "TOC" (Obsessional compulsive troubles?)

In the states anyway, we call it OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) although I tend to use OCD to describe stuff that might not be indicative of classic OCD--stuff like habits.

Well the only superstition I uphold is saluting at a magpie. However when watching a sporting event I get incredibally superstitious, end up praying to God, touching wood etc etc.

Apart from that funny one I have what we call in French "TOC" (Obsessional compulsive troubles?), you know, that's when you have for instance to check several times if you have correctly closed doors, taps, when you have to touch some objects a precise number of times (and lots of other very stupid and exhausting little rituals), just because your forced to do it, and if you don't you feel very bad and unsecured. I have this since I'm a little child, now it tends to calm down, except during stressful situations.
I have also lots of other personal superstitions and it's kind of really pradoxical since I already said in the "Supernatural" thread that I have a very rational mind (which is true... it's just my instinct that forces me to do some things or to believe in some others).

My "superstitions" are basically obsessive compulsions. Now and then I will make my future success contingent upon swishing a freethrow or something.

I think when I think about something too much I do things differently to avoid an undesired outcome I've illogically invented. It's usually a quite unlikely outcome, but never impossible. This is usually when I'm very tired and feeling generally impressionable. I can't think of anything I do regularly, like saying hello to magpies or avoiding ladders because they're more to do with 'bad luck' and all that, right? That doesn't wash with me. You make your own luck, by knocking on wood.
