Saw this yesterday, and I quite enjoyed it-great cast, effects, action sequences and some wry moments. The first 20 minutes or so, there's still a feeling that the movie could go horribly wrong, but when it gets into it's stride, it really takes off. It drags it's feet a little at the end, but that's forgivable. Seemed to be some stylistic nods towards other movies, and a couple of in-jokes (2001, and a mention of Gotham City!), and the Christ analogy seemed pretty evident! Now that everythings set-up, the sequel could be a cracker!

I figured you were going for a flick about some renegade enforcing his Categorical Imperative on everyone.

I think they should just remake The Wrath of Khan.

Here's an article on Superman 2, from Total Film:

"After spending much of his screen time in Superman Returns floating like a wood-sprite and pining like a grumpy teenager for Lois Lane, the Man Of Steel could finally be getting ready to rumble.

Director Bryan Singer told attendees at the annual Comic-Con geek-fest in San Diego that he is negotiating with Warner Bros to bring an action-heavy sequel to the big screen by 2009.

"I want to get all 'Wrath Of Khan' on this one," Singer said, prompting much gleeful squirming among the costumed masses. "Now that there's a context with characters who we're invested in, now we can go into the action realm. It's a way of rolling it out that I learned on X-Men."

Question marks have hovered over the follow-up to Superman Returns after its weaker than expected box-office results. The $250 million-plus production has sold $178 million in tickets Stateside and a further $110 million overseas – a spectacular amount of dosh, yet clearly one that might not cut the mustard with Warner Bros bean counters.

Singer's comments, however, would appear to end that speculation. Now all he has to do is sign on that dotted line…"

(Something to think about: If Superman Returns is a sequel to Superman 2 from the original series, shouldn't Singers Superman 2 be Superman 4? Or do you think they'll have the title as "Superman: *Subtitle*" for Superman Returns sequel?)

I agree here. I thought the plot was terrible. There's a (predictable, but) kinda cool subplot in there, but everything to do with Lex Luthor's diabolical scheme was retarded.

Yup. There's one part where he's out in space, and it looks like the CGI guys submitted an unfinished product. It was silly.

But don't listen to me, cause I liked MI3.

So has anyone else actually seen Superman yet? I quite liked it, hearkened back to old times. I like that they didn't try to make it into an X-Men style romp. But a lot of people, most of whom were not familiar with Superman of old, were disappointed by this "lack of action".

There were plenty of moments that made no sense, but otherwise enjoyable.

New Starbucks Opens In Rest Room Of Existing Starbucks

CAMBRIDGE, MA - Starbucks, the nation's largest coffee-shop chain, continued its rapid expansion Tuesday, opening its newest location in the men's room of an existing Starbucks.

"Coffee lovers just can't stand being far from their favorite Starbucks gourmet blends," said Chris Tuttle, Starbucks vice-president of franchising. "Now, people can enjoy a delicious Frappuccino or espresso just about any time they please, even while defecating."

The new men's-room-based Starbucks, the coffee giant's 1,531st U.S. location, will be open to both men and women when not "in use." In addition to offering specialty coffees from around the world, it will serve freshly baked pastries, Italian pannini sandwiches and soups, as well as the rest room's usual selection of toilet paper and soap.

"This is a great addition," said Jonathan Connolly, a Boston-area banker who tried out the new Starbucks Tuesday. "I was enjoying my usual triple mocha latté in the main Starbucks, and I had to go to the bathroom, where three people were in line to use the stalls. The wait might have been a problem, but, to my great pleasure, there was another Starbucks right there, ready to serve me more delicious coffee. And the baristas were helpful and courteous."

Connolly added that after he finished drinking his coffee and using the bathroom, he stayed for a poetry reading near the urinals.

"I was a little bit worried about the new restaurant cutting into our business," said Dave Grobelkowski, manager of the original Starbucks. "But the only people going there are ones who have already purchased items from us anyway. And if we run out of stirrers or cream, we can just go to the bathroom and borrow some."

According to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, the new location represents the beginning of a long-term expansion plan.

"Eventually, Starbucks rest rooms everywhere will sell coffee," Schultz said. "But that ambitious scheme is at least five years down the road. In the meantime, we plan to open an additional location in this Starbucks' ladies' room within months, and are already drafting plans for a fourth restaurant along the corridor leading from the main seating area to the rest rooms. At some point a 'Star-bucks Express' window will eventually open in the walk-in closet of the men's room Starbucks."

"Drink our coffee," Schultz said. "Drink it."

i don't like how the new Superman looks so gay. i wish he was more like old superman, who had more of a regular-guy look: with chizzled abs, rock-hard pecs and a tight, muscular ass tucked into his cute little speedo. the new one just looks gay

I think the movie has potential to be pretty good. However, i have two critiques:

1) They should've used the Smallville cast. End Smallville, have them do this film and all subsequent films. It would've been perfect

2) I hate that the red of the costume is more maroon.

Well if you consider movies from the past twenty years, Batman Begins is probably the worst of them all. Reading the Da Vinci Code was probably a more pleasurable experience than watching this "thing", and that's saying something.

Never saw it. Ha! I could probably count on one hand the movies I've seen from the past twenty years. I just like the idea of being god and creating censorship offices. It probably was awesome, and the Batman and Robin TV series was lame as could be and no doubt the material warranted an upgrade. What I'd love to see from Hollywood is grainy, turgid, black & white explorations of existential angst. Enough with the action blockbusters and sappy romance. I know: if I had my way there wouldn't be any movie industry. I'm narrow that way.

I don't have a big problem with a Superman remake, it's not something I'd go see, though. Plus, if anyone likes Superman, they'd be better off with Smallville- it's a pretty good show.

If producers were looking to make a movie with a good story, and some different ideas, they should finally make a movie of Atlas Shrugged. It would be a million times more coterversial than Da Vinci Code, and all the people who read the book would go to see how the movie turned out.

Speaking of the Seinfeld commercials, one thing I have a problem is Tv stars making commercials that are meant to seem more like entertainment, like some kind of creative endevor, instead of the lame ads that they are. There's Seinfeld with the AmEx ads, Jason Alexander with those snack food ads he used to do ( I can't remeber, Fritos or Lays or something ), Jon Lovitz with the Subway ads, the girl from Will & Grace for M&Ms.
It's like someone told them that they're so talented and their ads are so funny that they're not ads, they're entertainment. No.

I wholeheartedly agree. It would've been a shame to leave the Batman movie franchise at "Batman and Robin."

Seinfeld made a long American Express commercial with Superman. It wasn't terribly funny.

Oh if only Seinfeld was still on the air. I bet they would have done a whole episode to tie in with the movie. Or at least put even more superman references in to the show.
There's a superman fridge magnet and a little superman statue in Jerry's apartment. It's ment to be in every single episode of Seinfeld. I'm not sure that's true though, what about the chinese restaurant episode?
