Just came across this on another forum I frequent. It's a comparison between Red Hot Chili Pepper's latest hit, Dani California and an old Tom Petty song.

To me they're exactly the same.

So what is this? Plagiarism? Homage? An accident?

You decide:

I just read recently that George Harrison lost a copyright infringment case for "My Sweet Lord" because it sounded like "He's So Fine" by that 60's girl band.

"My Sweet Lord" had the distinction of being the first solo recordings by any of the Beatles to top the charts following their breakup. Unfortunately, Harrison was later successfully sued by the publisher of the 1962 Chiffons hit "He's So Fine," which bore a striking resemblance to "My Sweet Lord."

How many songs on the new record can you replace any of the verse lines with "Skibby Bibby Bibby Skibby Bibby Boo Bow!"?

Wait a minute, strike that. Reverse it.

yeah, i have the cd. that song made me think of Tom Petty but I don't think it was plagerism it's just an influence which happens in music all the time.

I agree with Heywood. They did the Aerosmith thing- got some one else to write em some catchy bazillion unit selling songs. Whatever.

The Offspring ripped off The Beatles' "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da" so obviously with that "Why don't you get a job" piece of crap that I thought the whole world was gonna sue them. But, I guess it's OK to steal music and call it your own. Makes you wonder...

To say the Chili Peppers should have called it quits ten years ago is being generous.

Not exactly Frank Black related, I know, but it just struck me as something worth having a listen to.

I thought you were going to refer to the album title theme:
STADIUM ARCADIUM v FASTMAN RAIDERMAN have a similar arc in my opinion...
