Posted - 04/22/2006 : 02:38:10 Saved! it's a teen comdey staring mandy moore and macauly culkin. thought it would some terrible derivative teen comdedy, but was incredibly supised by just how good it was. it's about this girl who goes to a very very christian high school who has sex with her gay boyfriend because she thinks that the best way to cure his homosexuality. well she gets pregnant and begins to question the role of God. mandy moore plays her friend who is 'very christian' and thinks that praying is the answer to everything. it is just so incredibly over the top, and is one of the best pisstakes of religious schooling and young christians i have ever seen. actually, it's probly the first such movie i've ever seen, but just works a treat. it's very lighthearted and of course has a happy ending, but i was just one of those movies that just totally exceeded my expectations. i love it when movies do that. |

Posted - 04/24/2006 : 21:54:07 Yes, SIdeways and Napoleon Dynamite are both awful. I suspect that you, like I, are too old to really appreciate Napoleon Dynamite, and too young to appreciate Sideways. they play as audio/visual vomit.

Posted - 04/24/2006 : 17:12:35 I really expected to like "Napoleon Dynamite", now that I've seen it I don't understand why anyone likes it. My brother loved it.
Also "Sideways", not just not good, but lame.

I love Guitar Wolf from the Erath!
i was checking out the director to see if he had done anything since then.. then i saw this in the "trivia" section:
Was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence, 9,500 euros (US$11,000) of reparation and a 15,000 euro (US$17,000) fine for sexually harassing two actresses during the preproduction of "Choses Secrètes" between 1999 and 2002. [15 December 2005]
maybe that has something to do with why he hasn't worked in a while

Posted - 04/22/2006 : 09:14:46 I was quite reluctant to watch "36 Quai des orfèvres" because of Gérard Depardieu, whom I usually can't stand. How wrong I was. Now I consider it the best French movie of 2004, and one of the most convincing films noirs I've ever seen.

Posted - 04/22/2006 : 03:49:06 2-3 years ago my girlfriend and I were nicely surprised by a little movie called "Dancer, Texas" (1998), which turned out to be full of charm and freshness. Certainly not a masterpiece but definitely worth seeing.
"Arlington Road" was a nice surprise too. A well-built script, two great actors, and probably the most unexpected ending I've ever seen.

Posted - 04/22/2006 : 03:02:43 That movie looks like it'll be really good, and I remember when it came out, thinking that it'd be great, but then being afraid of being disappointed. I'll have to give it a try.
I didn't expect to like "Ice Age" because I'm not into that whole Toy Story Finding Nemo Shrek thing, but it was an ok movie.
