Posted - 04/18/2006 : 12:36:42 I believe it was Cheeseman who first told me about this show, and I am hopelessly hooked. Are there DVDs out in the UK (couldn't find any when I was there)? Does anyone else watch it? How many seasons are there?
Anyway, mostly I wanted to let the British tv watching crowd know that this show shouldn't be overlooked. I've seen the first season only, but it's brilliant.

This is beyond dispute, and I'll take violent umbrage with anyone who disagrees. It's comedy that doesn't insult your intelligence, and there's precious little of that around.

Posted - 04/19/2006 : 13:39:53 aint it cool has a review of the new mission impossible. Here's what Harry has to say about Simon Pegg:
"Of course – there is one actor in particular in this film that is sheer genius. And that’s SIMON PEGG! His character is named Benji Dunn – and he’s kinda brilliant. Simon is a tech specialist. He isn’t in the movie much, but he’s a scene stealer. The second he appears on screen, all actors around him go invisible. His monologue about the Anti-God is classic stuff. The sort of material that we geeks retain in our bizarre freakish psyches for late night geek babblings regarding the fundamental secret essence of the universe. You know you have those conversations… and Simon is just the sort of man-god that can give you fodder for those occasions. This time, it’s all about the Anti-God. Genius."

See if you can get hold of the Spaced Collectors edition box set. It contains both series 1 & 2 and has an additional DVD with a 'making of' documentary. Well worth the money IMO.

Well on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being not clever at all, I rate it a 0. I am glad you agree with me.

Posted - 04/19/2006 : 07:21:11 I haven't watched zombie movies, so perhaps there's a whole level of awareness I've missed, but I still enjoyed it. I just don't think it was amazing. Just really good.

Posted - 04/19/2006 : 02:50:51 The trouble is it's hard for me to discuss Shaun of the Dead beyond "It's brilliant, it's just brilliant, what do you mean you don't get it, fool" because I'm so horribly biased towards it.
It's not a straight comedy which is what I think a lot of people were expecting and why people were disappointed. If people expected gag-a-minute lots of falling over then it's not what they got. It's not a straight Zombie film, which is the other thing people would think it might be when they realised it wasn't a straight comedy.
What it is is a beautiful hybrid of the both; combining both comedic elements and straight out zombie film elements. It pays homage to those that have passed before it and it does it so cleverly. To quote a wise man every time you watch it you see something new.
See, I'm probably the perfect target audience for this film, zombie geek and comedy groupie, so I can see all the clever little tributes to zombie films of yore, I can appreciate the way the straight zombie elements play out and I can find humour in all the funny bits, those that slap you in the face and the subtle bits too.
So I get to appreciate the film three fold. I could see how maybe a lot of the things in the film get overlooked if people don't get the context of something. It's still no excuse.

Posted - 04/18/2006 : 15:41:33 I'm not saying I don't rate Shaun of the Dead. It is a good film with some good moments in it (I loved the throwing records at the Zombies). I just don't think it's as funny as alot of people make it out to be. I'll have to watch it again and see if my opinion changes at all. I've not seen it in a while.

Posted - 04/18/2006 : 15:01:03 Well, I just checked the spaced website and it varies between definately a series three and we've written some stuff but can't promise anything. I put the hot fuzz video link up in my other post (I didn't make it clear - sorry)
I have to be honest and say I can't understand anyone who doesn't rate Shaun of the Dead. It's got levels. And Zombies.

Posted - 04/18/2006 : 14:56:11 I actually watched the second season again over the weekend with my brothers. Brian is so much funnier the second season than the first. Can't wait till Hot Fuzz. There's been video blogs of the making of the movie somewhere up on the internet. And I think Simon Pegg has a cameo in Mission Impossible III. Weird
I think Simon Pegg said that they want to do a two hour special to wrap everything up, like what the office did. Don't know if it will ever happen.

Posted - 04/18/2006 : 14:56:05 It may well be overrated over there, but it's the most unheard of show I've ever watched on this side of the pond. Honestly distressingly underrated.

Posted - 04/18/2006 : 13:13:19 Oh yeah, I loved Shaun of the Dead. Whassisface is a funny bloke.
I can't believe only two seasons?! Especially when one season there is like 1/4 of a season here. So it's like it was cancelled midway through its first season. Blasphemy!
Nobody here aside from a few friends I've shown the show to has even heard of it much less able to quote, I'll be happy to hear someone else confirm this show's brilliance through quotery. :)
I didn't realize the show was so old. We're so $^#$%^ behind over here.
I'm going to try to find a way to get the DVDs over here without spending a kidney. It's very hard to find/download.

Yup two seasons and yup that's going to be your lot I believe (I'm basing this solely on the Pegg-Stevenson dismissal of series three followed by insults on the compic aid thing though).
(It is fabulous though)
Dean, I think you *need* to see the second series. You need to. Need to.
You've seen Shaun Of The Dead, right?
