just floating an idea to see if anyone's interested.
it's a take off of the much loved cd swap phenomenon...
instead of doing a full cd, how about we set up a song swap instead.

ok, here's the idea.
you get 5 minutes, and 1 artist and you choose what song (or songs if you can fit more than 1) in those 5 minutes and you can upload it to rapidshare.de or yousendit.com (rapidshare probly better cause more people can download it and it stays up for longer) for other people in the game to download and then review. we'd set it up so there was a roster, and have a period of time between each subsequent persons go so everyone's 5 minutes get a decent listen too and sinking-in period. i'd say 1 or 2 days would be long enuf - leaning towards 2 for those who don't check forum every day.

i'm floating this idea cause my attention span is too short for a full cd at once, and thought doing it song by song would make it easier and more varied because more people could get a go more often.

so what do people think?
important rules:
1 artist only
5 minutes of music max
must adhere to roster - do jumping queue.

and it'd have to be either mp3 or wma files - too many people have roblems with itunes files for eg to use them....

i'm ready to go first if people are interested. if so, i'll start as soon as we have some kind of list of participants going....

edit:
ok, list is:
1. benji
2. ObfuscateByWill
3. Crispy Water
4. kathryn
5. Homers_pet_monkey
6. Broken Face
7. Apesy
8. Llamadance
9. jediroller
10. remig
11. vilainde

days up - i'm about to post my 5 mins worth. people can join whenever they want too. but in 2 days time, ObfuscateByWill can upload his track.

This used to be a nice thread.

Just to see if I can still make it twitch...

Moses - Dead Americans

This track is from a lo-fi project that is available from the band's website. I love the ending of this one.

If you hate it, I'll post a screamy epileptic track by Naked City, just to punish you!

He's currently on tour with Fiona Apple.

R.I.P. Song Swap.

Abandoned even by it's creator.

Nice. Short, achingly sweet.

Daniel Johnston always kind of reminds me of the young Loudon Wainwright III.

Don't care so much for Rock 'N' Roll. The chorus is a turn-off.

Trying to revive this swap that's slowly falling apart... So let's say this is my turn. Today's artist is Daniel Johnston, a man I've been constantly raving about on this forum. I love what he does. He's getting some publicity right now thanks to the documentary that's being released about him, so you've probably heard of him already. I selected 2 songs by him, first "True Love Will Find You In The End", probably my fave song by him, from the album "1990" (also his best album ever). He often ends his concerts with it. The second song is "Rock 'n' Roll/EGA", from his later, more produced era (from the album "Fun" released in 1994). Enjoy.

a good song apesy. something i definitely could see myself listening to more, but probly not buy...wouldn't go as far as a hootie comparison, but quite radio friendly....
nice and summery.

Great song. Reminds me Van Morrison and some of the better aspects of John Mellencamp.

I'm going to buy this album.

Not a bad song Apesy, think it'll grow on me. My first mental comparison was Hootie (sorry), but I felt there were touches of Lloyd Cole - that was more the voice. Cheers.

Miracle Legion - "Snacks and Candy"
http://download.yousendit.com/87C43D5A4D88B830

Totally wracked my brains on this one, but eventually chose Miracle Legion for both their connection to Frank (Mr. McCaffrey and Mr. Boutier [here nicknamed "Spot"] having joined ML for the recording of this album, Drenched, and later played with ML frontman Mark Mulcahy in the Pete & Pete soundtrack band Polaris) and for the fact that they're just so tremendously underrated. Drenched is in my top 10 albums of all time. Totally hard to chose which song exactly, too, but finally settled on the one that really hooked me on my own first listen. Enjoy!

The Halo Benders - sorry Brian,I find this kind of irritating. Don't really like the vocals, which is maybe a bit rich, considering the singers I do like, but they annoy me. Backing vocals are ok, and musically not bad. Maybe a bit quirky for my tastes too.

I liked it. Enough to make me want to check more out by them.

It's from his first solo album, Workbook.

OBW - that may as good a place to start as any, but my favourite solo album is probably The Last Dog & Pony Show.

A 3-album (so far) side project between Built to Spill's Doug Martsch and Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson. I only have their debut, GOD DON'T MAKE NO JUNK. The rhythm section is, i believe, original BTS drummer Ralf Youtz and ex-Treepeople bassist Rhino Flower. You can get their albums via Johnson's K Records, www.krecs.com

The song just works for me - its fun, and peppy and a very perfect spring/summer track.

God, I love The Halo Benders. I've always had trouble finding a physical copy of The Rebels Not In, but just three days ago I finally stumbled upon it used at my local indie shop for only $5.99. That was great.

"Don't Touch My Bikini" is a classic, of course.

Cool song. Didn't realize that the Halo Benders were a sort-of supergroup.

Gets better on each listen. Clever, catchy. Even like the little cartoon-y "broi-oing-oing"

Brian, not too bad. However, i don't see myself wanting to listen to this much more.
the dual vocals business didn't do anything for me.
'twas nice enough, just not my style.

Fair enough. I do like them, I just wouldn't say they stick in my head that much. Except 'Brother'. There may be some I haven't heard that are more poppy.

yeah well, my english vocabulary is limited. Memorize The City is upbeat and the chorus gets stuck in my head, I couldn't find a better word than "catchy" to describe it.

Have I reviewed kathryn's tracks? I think not. I liked them, they're solid, but to be fair I feel tired now of the 80s/90s revival. They would be really good IMO if they didn't have that dated sound, cause their songs are very catchy. By the way, does anyone remember The Catchers? One-record band from the 90s? It reminds me a bit of them.

Hey thanks.

I think I prefer the album version to the live track.

From what I've read he's the cat's pajamas. I didn't care much for this song, though. Is there any song or album you'd recommend to someone new to Mr. Mould?
