On the back sleeves of some of my 45s, it says, above the B-side track "b/w". I was wondering what that stood for.

I used to have some CD of some group (perhaps it was an EP...or a single from something...I can't recall) that had a song they played EITHER with Thom Yorke (or maybe Radiohead as a whole...again, I can't remember) and I want to say the song was called El Presidente...the chorus went something like "kill the president". Can someone fill me in on this gaping memory? It's probably something totally common, and I'm just a dolt. But I remember it being a pretty good song...I think it was a girl singing with Yorke.

"Polyethylene" is amazing. I like you, Tre.

I also love "Pearly" and "Gagging Order".

Ash have some great b-sides as well. "t-rex", "feel no pain", "sneaker"...

Napoleon XIV--"They're Coming to Take Me Away"

A novelty record in the sixties. The B-side is the A-side song backwards.

Cheeseman1000 mentioned Tanya Donelly's "After Your Party" from the Sleepwalk EP- good, but I think the better one is "Days Of Grace"- it might be my new favorite song.

Even though Tina Turner's done a lot of light pop music since her big comeback in 1984, she's also done some really good songs:

"Total Control" from the "We Are The World" album is great, better than the Motels, and it hardly sounds dated like a lot of other music from the mid-80s.

She also did a couple covers for the "Break Every Rule" single B-sides.
"Typical Male" is b/w "Don't Turn Around" a cover of the Ace of Bass song.
&
"Two People" is b/w "Having A Party" I like that song, and I remember her version being really good, whenever I'm at a record store that sells old 45s I try to find it.

I remembered this one at work today:

"Return" Siouxie & the Banshees, off "Kiss Them For Me"
(plus on the remix CD, there's a song called "Staring Back" that fades into "Return" which is cool too.)

Oh, I just remembered:

"We Despise You" Elvis Costello, off "13 Steps Lead Down"
(the EP has two other songs that are good)

benji, did you get the "Not Too Soon" EP? It's so good- they do the Beatle's "Cry Baby Cry" and there's a very good extended remix of "Him Dancing" (plus a remix of "Dizzy").

i think Cottonmouth by the Throwing Muses has to be the best b-side ever.
and on the same single, Same Sun is not far behind.

The Muses have some of the highest quality b-sides of any band i know.
cannae wait until they release a b-sides comp.

I think "Party All the Time" had an instrumental B-side. Without Eddie's vocals the song seemed to sound on key.

I hope all these were actually released as 45rpm vinyl. Otherwise they should be...disqualified!!!

I like the Four Tet remix of Skttrbrain, or whatever he calls it. But then, Keiran Hebden could wee in a jar and serve it as vinegar and I'd still love it.

Oh, I quite like 'Your Diary' too; a Franz Ferdinand B-side.

Bah, I'm going to have to raid my 7"s now.

Fog is by far Radiohead's best bside (especially the live piano version).
And Announcement gets my vote for best bside ever.

I love Oasis B-sides like Acquiesce, The Masterplan, Talk Tonight etc.

Favourite Frank related B-side is probably Santo.

I'd like to note what an excellent song the Breeders' "Flip Side" is.

What a great thread this is now. I can't believe nobody thought of this before.

I'd like to nominate 'Into The White' firstly.

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

You're right, and t'is a wonderful song too.
Cheeseman1000 Posted - 03/29/2006 : 02:28:42
Talk Show Host by Radiohead? Wasn't that a B-side to Street Spirit?

Maybe After Your Party, by Tanya Donnelly, from the Sleepwalk EP.

Now that the problem is solved, this thread could be a "What's your favorite B-side" thread.

I nominate:
"Another Lonely Christmas" Prince
"Like A Dog" Throwing Muses
"Supernatural" Madonna

From Wikipedia:

<< b/w is also commonly used with old 45 and 78 RPM records and stands for "backed with" and thus refers to the flip side (commonly called "B side") of the record. >>
