This reporter thinks somebody else quit South Park for Issac Hayes because a) he had a stroke in January and b) he defended the episode in an interview for "The A/V Club".
Chef will be featured in the first episode of the new season without Hayes providing the voice. Since Trey and Matt turn around an episode in six days, they can respond quickly to current events. Should be fun.

That's strange considering that you have to pay your way through the religon before you're told the great mysteries of life. I'd think they'd shoot for a richer clientele. Maybe in the mid 80's they didn't have the cred to shoot for celebs yet.

Back then that "church" looked pretty damn crummy. How 20 yrs changes things.

Posted - 03/22/2006 : 07:18:53 It's bloody riciculous how scientology can have such an influence, when there are only around 50,000 members and it's basically a sci-fi convention bullshit cult.. |

Posted - 03/22/2006 : 07:02:49 there was a pretty big article about this in the NY Times. Hayes definitely quit because of the episode. There were also rumors that Tom Cruise insisted that they not air the episode (again) or he'd refuse to to press for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3. There was a long, entertaining response by the South Park guys to the whole thing.. going off on Chef (for still cashing his checks for making the episode, even though he was "offended", after years of making fun of Christians, Jews etc..)

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 23:19:28 It's funny, it seems they've taken plenty of pot shots at religion in the past. But, seeing as Hayes is a Scientologist...

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 13:33:21 I've been hearing so much about Scientology this past year but I know almost nothing about it except that it's kind of cult-like, it was founded by LRH, and a lot of celebrities are into it.
