Posted - 03/15/2006 : 06:13:45 Two friends moving to LA (i'll be out to visit in May - Tony start giving me suggestions) through a going away party last night at a Karaoke bar. I sang...
"The Monster Mash" - Bobby "Borris" Picket "MMM MMM MMM MMM" - Crash Test Dummies "Rock Lobster" - B-52s
Those are all 'new' pieces for me - does anyone have regular songs they do? What makes a perfect karaoke song? Share!

Posted - 01/02/2007 : 07:55:57 Anyone keen on how to pronounce the word Karaoke?? Most folks seem to say 'kari-okie'. Then again, anybody who has heard 'Calistan' knows damn well its 'ka-row-key'

Posted - 12/28/2006 : 07:19:24 My local karaoke bar here in Canberra has Monkey Gone To Heaven. Needless to say I have performed it 3 times. Two weeks ago me and some mates went, two of em dueted on Prince's "7" , then me and my brother did 'Monkey', then another mate did 'Creep' by Radiohead and was so good he got asked to go back-to-back so he did "Careless Whisper" by Wham which brought the house down. Loathe to follow this precedent, i wisely abandoned my solo attempt at 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' by Joy Division. My other brother then did 'Born To Run' which somehow went down ok despite his tone deafness. |

So true. It always surprised me how both Roxy Music's best and worst songs were on the same album.

Posted - 12/28/2006 : 06:33:48 I last did Turning Japanese (was just surprised they had it!) but was a little quick in the verses and I struggled to keep up at times (especially whilst drunk), then I capped the night off with a duet of White Wedding, which went very bad as soon as me and the other guy realised we only really knew the chorus.

Posted - 12/27/2006 : 10:12:59 Last night i went karoaking again. It was pretty fun. My friend Scotty and i dueted on "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey and "Love Shack" by the B-52s (i took the Fred Schneider part), and i solo'd "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby. Good times...

Posted - 03/16/2006 : 09:51:37 Although I've been to Karaoke too many times I have only sung twice. I have a kind of phobia about singing in public.
A couple years ago I did Chain of Fools. It worked out well, with enough liquid courage.
And last x-mas I did The Tide is High for my friend's work party where there were prizes. I didn't win. Some guy that's worked there for 30 some odd years and has cancer did.
I don't like to do it though, I get too adrenaliny and nervous. I like singing while my bro or hubby plays guitar around the campfire. Sigh, I need summer.

Posted - 03/16/2006 : 05:05:32 Last weekend there was a live band karaoke thing at the Barfly in Camden. Me and a friend ran through Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand and Teenage Dirtbag - Wheetus.
It was brilliant.
I was drunk.

Posted - 03/15/2006 : 06:58:39 Hahahha, no, I pronounce it properly when drunk or not under pressure. :)
Duke of Earl's a great Karaoke song, though not necessarily something you'd find in a bar. I've done others with varying degrees of success. Nothing stands in my mind as an old standard though.

Posted - 03/15/2006 : 06:42:46 You guys have the best songs... My karaoke experiences always were with the shittiest French tunes. Except one time in Inverness, Scotland, where we did a kickass version of Alive And Kickin' with 2 scots and my friends. I was very drunk.

Posted - 03/15/2006 : 06:26:41 the first lesson is: no matter which song it is, you gotta be drunk to perform a karoake song perfectly.

Posted - 03/15/2006 : 06:26:16 From the typos I assume the karaoke night involved a lot of alcohol... My only advice for a karaoke is: never choose an Offspring song.
