Posted - 02/15/2006 : 18:19:11 A few months back I was chatting with a couple of people from this forum about New Mexico. Unfortunately, I've forgotten their usernames. So maybe they'll remember the conversation.
In any case, I'm going to New Mexico for a couple of weeks. I want to spend most of my time in Albuquerque. I'm not a big fan of Santa Fe. So, if anybody's been to Albuquerque and has any opinions about the city or suggestions on what to do it would be aprreciated.
Thanks.

Posted - 03/08/2006 : 12:26:50 The closest I've come to El Paso was buying some El Paso Salsa Sauce two days ago at Sainsbury's.
Based on that experience (it was very tasty) I recommed you go there. |

Well, that was a Weird Al quote, but yes, I have been there. My dad lives there. Parts of it are nice, although there's a definite sameness to its look that gets tiring after a while. That's just me, though. Maybe you'd think differently.
What!? So you mean I can't eat soup out of an ashtray? I'm not sure I wanna go there anymore.

Ha! I may have to. That sounds like fun. They better be big ashtrays. Can I have seconds?
So, VoVat, apparently you've spent some time there. Do you like the city?

I have visited friends in Baltimore. I thought it was pretty cool in a funky, rundown sort of way. Maybe that's why I like Albuquerque, too.

The Santa Fe / Lamy Amtrak station. OK, no burritos here, but... no concrete either :)

Stopped in and spent time in El Paso on a Greyhound bus trip. Take my advice, 'tis a genuine shithole. |

Posted - 02/17/2006 : 00:48:37 I spent 3 days in Albuquerque in 1990 or 92 (can't remember...). I would have liked to explore it a little more than I did, the problem is that you can't walk a mile without stumbling across an interstate highway, or someone suggesting you to stay away from "that part of the city".

I guess I didn't care much for the burning piles of trash I saw as we were leaving (both times). But go into town and report back to us about "The Real AB". Like I said, I was just passin' through. |

Posted - 02/16/2006 : 20:53:20 Well, I do get the feeling that none of the Albuquerque critics here have really spent time there. I mean, I keep hearing it's the armpit, it's stinky, food poisoning, but has anybody really scratched the surface of the city? I do know that a lot of New Mexico's natives really resent Santa Fe and love Albuquerque.
