Anyone hear of this band? I picked up their EP over the weekend after hearing a song on the radio (I liked it that much), and the EP is from a year ago. I can't find any info on these people. Just wondering.

The album comes out here in the States tomorrow! Can't friggin' wait!!! I also happened along a couple more singles:

Just Friends (with 'I Can't Lose' b-side)

and

Unsatisfied (with 'Lost House' b-side)

While Just Friends is good, Unsatisfied may be my favorite song next to Over The Ocean. yay!

Their album is out soon in the US, plus a tour in March and April.

Mel, they often go to Smile, the club where Simon and I took you to. They seem like nice guys. Simon knows/stalks the guitarist.

Anything you wanna know about them, just ask.

Hold those NHS specs high! Unless you mean someone who isn't Jarvis Cocker, in which case I don't know what support to offer.

I would offer a guestlist pass, but it's pretty much full up now- sorry! It's only £7 to get in anyways, that's admission for the whole complex- the top floor "Star Bar" has a decent indie/rock DJ spinning the choo-oons so it's aaaaaaaall good.

Is Over The Ocean only a b-side over there across the ocean? I think it is superior to Cosmopolitan.

Haha, I don't have a band for the 'Doog' stuff but thanks for the thought. I did have a band for about a month but I got bored of it, if it doesn't sound like it does in my head, I lose interest pretty quick.. Maybe I could whore my other bands EP once we've finished it..

Incidently, what part of the UK is "up here"?

Ten Black Alps are better. They're one louder. When they go up to Eleven, they'll really rock.

Believe me...I wouldn't take shit in any form from the radio...but I must admit, as a radio hater, I must put aside my differences for a second and thank KROQ I happened to tune in to catch NBA. I guess sometimes radio can throw a sublime wrench into it's own cogs.

Yes. No wonder I was having a hard time trying to find stuff by NINE BLACK OAKS. Everything kept redirecting me to The Alp Ridge Boys.

But on a side note, yesterday on the "world famous K-ROQ" here in Los Angeles, they were playing Cosmopolitan again, and basically hyping NBA as the next best saviors of rock! It's so weird that suddenly this band appears out of nowhere here (to me, at least), they're actually good, no one I know (even the 'in' friends I have) has ever heard of them, and BOOM.

It's very exciting to be excited by new music. Sometimes I worry it will never happen again, then suddenly along comes a surprise.

Yeah Over The Ocean is great for a b-side to Cosmopolitan. That was a vinyl only limited edition debut release - 1,000 copies only. I managed to find a copy in the Rough Trade shop in Portobello in London when I was down there. I now have all the rest of their vinyl signed which is quite cool.

They had execs from loads of record labels pulling up in limos outside this really small bar in Manchester called Big Hands where they were playing only their fourth or fifth gig (Mel, it's the sister bar of The Temple). The singer Sam said he had the boss from a label in LA calling him at 3 in the morning promising to make them the biggest band in the world. Freaked him out a bit I think.

I did check out their site already...really cool.

Frankly, I like the polished sound of their craziness. I'm sure live they are fantastic. It was COSMOPOLITAN that I heard on the radio...I caught it half-way through and was like "who the fuck is this?!!". Luckily, the DJ mentioned their name...which usually they don't on radio these days. I happened to find the EP at BEST BUY (of all places! Nowhere else has it!) I think my favorite track is Over The Ocean...Shot Down is quite snazzy, too!

I'm sure to you guys overseas this is all yesterday's news...but hot damn! I hope they catch on here! I gotta see them play!

If you don't mind importing.

They are probably better live. One thing their album was criticised for was being too polished. Some said that after the rawness of their limited edition debut single, and their live shows, the album was over produced (they flew to LA to have it done by the Foo's producer I think).

Have a look around here too.

http://www.nineblackalps.net/

They have only been going for around two years. They started a band to get into gigs for free, and they played a house party with The Longcut that I was lucky enough to be at.
