I seem to recall there are a few people here who are big fans of Mr. K. Dick, so I thought I'd ask the following.

A while ago I read 'The Man in the High Castle' and enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm quite into that sort of thing. You know, a kind of reality based idea, that's not awfully futuristic; Wells/Verne-like, etc- I don't know if Dick strays into that sort of outright fantasy territory, which is why I ask; what of Philip K. Dick should I read next?

yesterday I got Lies, Inc. So far itīs pretty good, about a guy investigating a supposed paradise planet from which nobody ever returns when he finds all the news footage of people living in idyll there was faked.

Itīs about an undercover drug agent who takes too much drugs and ends up narcing on himself. Richard Linklater is making a film of it, a mix of a graphic novel and live-action, with Keanu Reeves and Woody Harrelson.

Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said is a good un about a celebrity who loses his identity in a police state, that and A Scanner Darkly are good further introductions to him. Iīm reading VALIS at the moment and it is really out there.

p.s.: the earlier on in Dicksī career, the more youīll find the outright fantasy flying-car stuff. As he progressed he talked more of police states and the group-mind thinking of conformers and corporations, but from ī74 he claimed to be channelling a higher intelligence who warned him his son was in danger of dying from a hernia undiscovered by doctors and so his books of last eight years of his life took on a much more cosmic spin.
