What do y'all like to drink? I just been learning how to mix drinks (with generous help from www.thebar.com) and am thinking about bartending as a career.

No need to be nice to us Americans. Canadians are Americans too, though. Just not USAmericans. I was schooled on that by a Canadian in a bar one night. In fact, I've spent a few nights in bars where I've ended up talking to Canadians. They are better at drinking, I think. Y'all aren't allowed in at www.thebar.com though. Though... security ain't all that tight. ;)

Ha. I was in South America last year and came across a kool-aide like drink mix that advertised itself "Sabor a tuna!" (Tuna-flavored!)

I like Bloody Mary's, but not with Clamato. I like these better than Bloody Mary's, for the serious only:

Yucatan-Style Sangrita

Ingredients a la thebar.com
• 1.5 oz. Don Julio Añejo Tequila
• 1 28 oz. can of tomatoes
• 1 cup orange juice
• .03 cup lime juice
• 1 slice white onion
• 1 seeded green chile
• 1 tsp. sugar
• .25 tsp. hot pepper sauce
• 1 wedge lime
................................................................................
Preparation
• Add tomatoes, orange juice, lime juice, white onion, green chile, sugar, and hot pepper sauce in a blender
• Blend until smooth and pour enough to fill a tequila shot glass
• Add Don Julio Añejo Tequila to another tequila shot glass
• Garnish with lime wedge

the caesar is the most underrated drink in the world. i admit it can be an acquired taste but you'll be hooked in no time if you give it a chance. in a way the caesar is like frank- brilliant and undiscovered by the majority of the planet.

and it is very good with a pickled asparagus.

Yeah I even taught him how to make a caesar and he still didn't like it.
Did you put a piece of celery in it???

I have too. It's fish-tasting tomato juice. And if I'm not mistaken, the reason for all the world's ills.

Seriously, Canadians...

Yeah, I can't imagine ever wanting a bloody mary. Or bloody anyone, for that matter...

Carolynanna Posted - 01/19/2006 : 06:40:53
Would you honestly drink a bloody mary though?

Now that's rank, or at least I think tomato juice is rank.
Its all thick and goopy...

I could go for about half of those. I'm not a guy and I'm not a spammer, I'm a lady trying to get some ideas for drinks to learn bartending, but I also wanted to contribute something so I listed my favorite site, thebar.com. Here's one of my faves off there:

Angus Collins

Ingredients
• 1.5 oz. scotch
• 2 oz. sour mix
• 1 oz. soda
• .5 oz. orange juice
• 1 cherry
• 1 twist lemon
................................................................................
Preparation
• Add scotch, sour mix, soda, orange juice
• Stir and serve over crushed ice
• Garnish with cherry and lemon twist

Just before christmas I was hankering for a newcastle brown ale and the hidden pub I was in didn't sell it. The barmaid suggested I try half lager half bitter. I said that sounded odd and she said she'd give me some to try, "some" was half a pint. It was quite nice and actually was slightly like newcastle brown ale so I got a pint plus my free half pint.

The moral is flirting with the barstaff always pays. Oh, no, the moral is that half bitter half lager is ok tasting.
HeywoodJablome Posted - 01/18/2006 : 10:36:06
When I make it to the U.K. the first thing I'm going to do is try a Newcastle. 10 years ago it seemed to be a lot better quality in the states than it is now. It tastes like crap now here, maybe they stopped putting the goat blood in or something.
starmekitten Posted - 01/18/2006 : 09:28:41
At the moment a gin and tonic or a newcastle brown ale will do.

Or coffee. Always 'or coffee'.

No benji, it's a bitch to find. I've only seen it at Bevmo here in the states. Worth seeking out though.
