So what do you put on when you've had a hard day's work that's got you stressed and angry? Something soothing? Something angry?

I came in after a grim day today to find a couple of advance cd's on my doormat. So I put the Arctic Monkeys in the CD player, I figure 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', this is bound to work. Well, it doesn't really, so I go to the next one and yeah...

Give me that acid smiley baby, I'm rocking round my room!

Anything by The New Pornographers (except Falling Through Your Clothes which makes me sad).

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

I don't have one set song. Bob Marley is usually a mellow fave. Sometimes I just sing some of his songs in my head like Three Little Birds when I can't play something.

But then I love rockin faves like FB, Pixies, Fugazi and Jane's Addiction.

And then sometimes I like some newer stuff like NP's and other cool new stuff.

So it just depends :)

"Burning With Optimism's Flames," by XTC, tends to work pretty well for me.

Loaaaads of songs, but 'Mosh Don't Pass The Guy' always makes me happy for some reason. I think cause it's a neat riff, it's fast, and it's puuuuuure music. No lyrics to worry about, just headbang or shimmy-shuffle around the room.

pachuco cadaver by Captain Beefheart

When she wears her bolero then she begin t’ dance
All the pachucos start withold’n hands
When she drives her Chevy Sissy’s don’t dare t’ glance
Yellow jackets ‘n red debbles buzzin’ round ‘er hair hive ho
She wears her past like uh present
Take her fancy in the past
Her sedan skims along the floorboard
Her two pipes hummin’ carbon cum
Got her wheel out of uh B-29 Bomber brodey knob amber
Spanish fringe ‘n talcum tazzles FOREVER AMBER
She looks like an old squaw indian
she’s 99 she won’t go down
Avocado green ‘n alfalfa yellow adorn her t’ the ground
Tatooes ‘n tarnished utenzles uh snow white bag full o’ tunes
Drives uh cartune around
Broma’ seltzer blue umbrella keeps her up off the ground
Round red sombreros wrap ‘er high tap horsey shoes
When she unfolds her umbrella pachucos got the blues
Her lovin’ makes me so happy
If I smiled I’d crack m’ chin
Her eyes are so peaceful thinks it’s heaven she been
Her skin is as smooth as the daisies
In the center where the sun shines in
Smiles as sweet as honey
Her teeth as clean as the combs where the bees go in
When she walks flowers surround her
Let their nectar come in to the air around her
She loves her love sticks out like stars
Her lovin’ sticks out like stars

This doesn't cheer me up (if anything, it probably depresses me), but I am reminded of Cheer Up Charlie from the original Choc Factory adap!!

"Charlie's Mother: You get blue like everyone
But me and Grandpa Joe
Can make your troubles go away
Blow away, there they go...

Cheer up, Charlie
Give me a smile
What happened to the smile I used to know
Don't you know your grin has always
Been my sunshine;
Let that sunshine show...

Come on, Charlie
No need to frown
Deep down you know tomorrow is your toy...

When the days get heavy
Never pitter patter
Up and at'em boy

Some day, sweet as a song
Charlie's lucky day will come along
Till that day
You've got to stay strong Charlie
Up on top is right where you belong

Look up, Charlie
You'll see a star
Just follow it and keep your dreams in view
Pretty soon the sky is going to clear up
Charlie,
Cheer up Charlie,do
Cheer up Charlie
Just be glad you're you."

Spanish Techno...just now...loud on my car stereo on the way home!
