What were they?

Mine'd be Fantomas at the Fillmore. Always nice when they set up the three drum sets from all three bands on the stage at once for a jam. Especially when one of the drummers is Dave Lombardo and another is that psycho from Hella! Amazing show all around.

And maybe Hater at the Knitting Factory, that's about as memorable as it got for me.

Undisputed no. 1: Roxy Music - on a crappy festival, following Mel C, playing all their early avant garde stuff. Audience with an avarage age of 50 slamdancing to the encore Virginia Plain.

Runners up: Frames, Posies, Eliott Murphy, Karate

Disappointing: Dinosaur Jr, Mark Lanegan Band, Mike Watt

White Stripes
Paul McCartney
Broken Social Scene

Beck
Spoon
Stephen Malkumus
Bauhaus
Arcade Fire

Garbage was a good show from the stanpoint of gitz and show biz

I know in 2006 Camper Van is going to be the first on that list. I also hope to see the bands listed at the top in 06 to make up for not seeing them on 05!

Top four in order, number one being the best:

1. Jonathan Richman (40 Watt Club)
2. Brian Wilson (Hollywood Bowl)
3. New Pornographers (Variety Playhouse)
4. Bauhaus (Tabernacle)

Psycho? More like genius. Kudos for mentioning Hella - had no idea they played with Fantomas.

On that note, the best (only) shows I attended this year were 50 Foot Wave at an in-store and Hella (as four-piece) opening for Dillinger Escape Plan. Skipped most of Dillinger... mostly due to exhaustion.

Goodness Jessie, haven't seen you round these parts in a while, happy Christmas/New Year!

For me, I think :
Kristin Hersh @ the Scala playing all Throwing Muses songs (one of the best gigs ever)
Kristin Hersh @ the Barfly
Sigur Ros @ Brixton Academy
Pixies @ Ally Pally
Go! Team @ Electric Ballroom

Of those, the Kristin set at the Scala and Go! Team, are Top 5 ever, possibly.

Daivd Lowery and Johnny Hickman sounds cool, VoVat. Did they play When I Win The Lottery? What Cracker songs did they play?

It was an acoustic set. Here's the setlist, not entirely in order, but as close as I could remember it afterwards:

Costco Socks
Lucky
Lonesome Johnny Blues
Friends
Sad Lovers' Waltz
Might Makes Right
Take The Skinheads Bowling
All Her Favorite Fruit
Big Dipper
Duty Free
Eurotrash Girl
One Fine Day
That Gum You Like Is Back In Style
Pictures Of Matchstick Men
Take Me Down To The Infirmary
Sweethearts
Low
One More Name (Dwight Yoakam cover)
O Death
Teen Angst

No "Win I Win The Lottery," but CVB did this one at both of their shows that I've attended.
