Any fans here? I'm a casually big fan of the Japanese pop duo Puffy Ami Yumi (or just Puffy to any Japanese folk on here), and I thought I'd check out Andy Sturmer, the songwriter's old band. Only heard 'Joining A Fan Club' (Puffy cover this), and it's pretty damn awesome. Sorta Queen meets Weezer and ELO. The lyric "Joining a fanclub with my friends/Filling our bathtubs with t-shirts and 8x10s" is great enough to warrant my devotion.

Should I just go and order Spilt Milk now, or have they released a better one?

I seem to remember them being heralded as the new Beatles when they were first coming onto the scene. Bologna!

Mrs. BLT is a big Jellyfish fan but they've never really caught me. Isn't one of their songs a sappy ballad about a chick who gets slapped around by her man? Not my thing.

Whenever I hear them, I want to turn it off and put on a Squeeze album instead.

LOW BLOW.

I just dug up Bellybutton on cassette. A clever little pop record. Check out King is half undressed, All I want is everything, I wanna stay home, Baby's coming back and Bed spring kiss.

Allmusic rates Spilt Milk higher (I've never heard this one) It features the talents of Jon Brion and Lyle Workman!!! It must be very well worth getting then.

Jellyfish heaven
Where jellyfish go
To get away from Mormons
And drunk Eskimos
Jellyfish heaven
Is a lot
Like LA

If you're bad
You'll go to hell
And jellyfish will sting you
And your body will swell

Jellyfish heaven
In the big blue sea
Where it's too cold to surf
And it's too warm to ski
Jellyfish Heaven
Is full of dead
Jellyfish

quote:
The problem first became obvious in the late summer when fishermen chasing anchovies, salmon and yellowtail began finding huge numbers of the jellyfish in their nets.

Often the weight of the echizen kurage broke the nets or crushed the fish to death; those that survived were poisoned and beslimed by their tentacles...

In the meantime locals are making the best of it — rather than just complaining about jellyfish they are eating them.

Jellyfish are an unusual ingredient of Japanese cuisine but are much more prized in China. Coastal communities are doing their best to promote jellyfish as a novelty food, sold dried and salted.

... Childbirth is no more a miracle than eating food and a turd coming out of your ass.
