Posted - 11/11/2005 : 08:11:24 This morning I was lying (laying?) in bed, half asleep, half awake, pissed off about something from 16 or 17 years ago. Spinning through my head this morning was Tommy James & the Shondells CRIMSON & CLOVER...one of the best rock songs ever percieved, performed, and recorded (in my opinion). Now, about 16 or 17 years ago, I heard twice on an oldies station (can't recall, but it was L.A. based...not KRTH 101.1 and not KOLA 99.1) a LONGER version of TJ&S's C&C. It had quite a psychedelic part in the middle that lasted quite some time and stretched the song a good 2 or 3 minutes longer than the normal radio cut. Since then, I have never heard it again, nor does anyone (even radio stations) know of this existing. It has caused me much anger and frustration over the years to know I'm right that there is this expanded version, but everything points to me as being wrong. I have no idea why today was the day chosen to rekindle this rage...maybe someone can help me out? Has anyone else ever heard this or have some info for me to put this craziness to rest? Also, if anyone else has stories of things they concretely remember and no one else does, please feel free to tell.

I bought that album the week it came out. Even remember being at the store that day, to include where I parked, walking into the store, and checking out, with the Jett and something else apparently less memorable. Twenty-three years ago, but, as they say, I can't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday. If you're into that sort of thing, Joan holds up pretty damn well. I've downloaded three or four Blackhearts boots at dimeadozen, covering the eighties up till the last year, and the lady's always got the goods. Though I'll pass due to already having it times over, thanks K for the download.
"That's no lady; that's Joan Jett."
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts was one of the first concerts i went to.
i like the Peaches version of "bad reputation".. good stuff |

I made it up as a mock reply to my reference of her as a "lady" in my post. But I'm sure somebody cool said something like that, sometime I mean. |

Posted - 11/11/2005 : 17:52:26 fav Jon Jett tune for me was Bad Reputation. The bitch is bad.
Trans - i know what you're talking about...ive always thought there was a cut in the radio version...and if you listen closely with a musicians ear, when the guitar, vox and drums drop out in the middle and its just the bass riff.....there's a slight drop in pitch...like they slighly screwed up the dub...when they chopped the middle parts out..
There was another version of "Melt With You" moving around on the radio a few years back...it was identical to the original except that it lacked an edge and..the drum fill coming out of the middle eight was off...different...and the overall recording was abviously not the original...to me anyway.
can anyone explain that?
Was it Modern English having rerecorded it or was it a good (bad)imitation?
Fucking remixes.
I bought a Steely Dan 2cd set recently..."The Steely Dan Story" and am listening along to FM...awaiting the cool understated, muted, bendy and slightly atonal guitar solo at the end when they're vamping out and its gone..replaced by so much alto sax velveeta bullshit. I wanted to call someone and bitch. Seems they fucked with everything on the cd. Even Dirty Work sounded different...the acoustic guitar was louder.
Can't they just leave shit alone?
I know, old argument, old issue, moot point...but dammit...some of those recordings are like rooms in my mind...and remixes are like the asshole landlord decided to show up while i was on vacation and repaint and move all my shit around...thinking id like it better.
gah!
If charles ever starts fucking with original pixies mixes im coming after him.
i mean.
not really.
he's alot bigger than me.
but dont touch them!
they're perfect! |

Put another dime in the jukebox, Erebus! (That's a thread in and of itself: lasting specific memories of the circumstances under which one bought or heard a specific album or song.) Who's that quote by?

Excuse my ignorance (please), who's singing the version I posted up? I've just downloaded yours, K, but it's the same as the one I grabbed from Limewire. I like the song alot, but feel kind of stupid for not knowing more about it.
You posted the original 5-minute album version by Tommy James and the Shondells, the one that drove Transmarine crazy. I posted the remake by Mrs. Joan Erebus, Joan Jett to the rest of youse.

Posted - 11/11/2005 : 10:48:08 Brian, Mr. Kathryn, who programmed an oldies station back in the day, says there was most definitely a 5-minute version but the single that was played on the radio was about 2 and a half minutes long. I hope this puts your mind at ease.
