That is another record I was really waiting for, and I must say that I am not disappointed.

The new album is objectively great (perhaps better than the first one), and it confirms the fact that Franz Ferdinand are far better than all these bands of suckers like The Killers, Bloc Party, The Libertines, Kaiser Chiefs...

...even if they sell a lot of records

I hadn't, actually. (Well, I might have heard a song or two at some point, but nothing I could remember.) TotY was the first album I heard by Frank in any capacity, and that was in 1999. I realize this makes me unusual.

It's certainly true that second albums can be difficult. I think a lot of bands try to copy their first album as much as possible, but with weaker songs. I haven't heard the new Franz Ferdinand (which begs the question as to why I'm reading this thread, but I honestly keep forgetting that the subject line is an album title), so I don't know whether or not it fits this pattern.

I think it was the first Frank album I heard in entirety too, though because I'm assuming you heard the Pixies before Teenager, there may have been comparisons going on. There certainly was for me, and it took me a while to come around to it (not to mention it sounded pretty weird to me at the time).

It's hard for a band to follow up a successful first album (or first career in Frank's case), because people have a set idea of what to expect (or what they want to hear, even), and they're disappointed when it doesn't fit the mould. I think You Could Have it So Much Better is a very good compromise.

I think so.

Did it take a while for you to like it, then?

It took me a little while, but since it was actually the first Frank album I'd ever heard, it wasn't because of any comparison to the orange album.

Hmm, would Teenager of the Year count as a second album?

I love the album too. It took me a while to like it, but that's generally the way with second albums.

I thought the single was terrible. Really disappointing.
