Posted - 10/15/2005 : 05:05:52 Hey, that's my new favourite band. Great songs, great lyrics and great visual art. I enjoyed a lot Her Majesty in 2003, but this year's Picaresque is even better. If you haven't heard of them yet, stop telling yourself you're cool and you know about music. They tour Europe this fall, so don't miss them (29/11 à la Boule Noire, french fans, you MUST be there).

Posted - 10/23/2005 : 18:22:21 I saw em this summer at the Fineline with Okkerville (Sp?) River opening. They're great live.
I think they have/had a show here recently. It's been pretty hectic lately so I am clueless. If they haven't played yet though, I will definately see em.

Posted - 10/16/2005 : 11:30:10 I guess I'm also prejudiced against them. One of my best friends is a die-hard fan, and just to spite her I'm constantly putting them down.

Posted - 10/16/2005 : 11:25:35 Well, I like TMBG's vocals, too. Not sure they're really all that similar, but maybe.

Posted - 10/16/2005 : 10:11:38 I think I see a lot of people not understanding French humour. Or perhaps me assuming humour where there is none. Don't think he was serious, but who knows...
In any case, the vocals were the stumbling block for me too, but I quite got over it to enjoy Picaresque. I'd heard them before and didn't like them but now I think I may have been premature. The vocals are remniscent to me of TMBG in style. I may also have to give them a chance...

As far as I could see, all of the negative comments have been to the effect that they didn't like Colin's voice, not that the music was too new. I don't agree with them at all, but they're entitled to their opinion.

I see that COF, Vovat, Offerw and Klikger are men of great taste.

Posted - 10/15/2005 : 12:28:58 Picaresque is probably my favorite overall album of theirs, although there are individual songs on the other albums that I like better. I like Colin's voice a lot. It was surprising to me that he isn't really British, although I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that real Brits could figure that out really easily.
I don't have "The Tain" yet, but they actually did the whole thing at the concert I saw last week. It's definitely on my wishlist.

Posted - 10/15/2005 : 09:36:02 Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by Picaresque and will be looking into their back catalogue later. I really enjoy The Mariner's Revenge and there's a slightly bombastic part towards the end of Sixteen Military Wives that gets in my head some mornings and gets me going.

Posted - 10/15/2005 : 05:18:04 Agreed!
Picaresque probably my favorite record of the year thus far. This Sporting Life and We Both Go Down Together are brilliant songs. I bought all the previous records after enjoying Picaresque so much, this last record probably their best.
The vocals are one of their strong points. I love how he sings this great line: "Meet me on my vast veranda, my sweet untouched Miranda"
