Yes this is a shallow thread all about looks.

I've just gone from blonde to dark brunette and it's absurd just how differently people are now treating me and I'm not just talking about strangers either. Statments that would previously be taken as a joke or even just ignored are now regarded seriously. Sadly I don't seem to be able to get away with as much as what I used to and there are others but I'll not go into those now.

I'm curious - anyone else experienced this? Going from bearded to shaven for the blokes? That kind of thing. Talking to a friend and he mentioned that whenever he shaves his head people seem to regard him as being tough as hell and quite often wanting to start fights with him more so than when he isn't bald. Another friend who dyed her hair bright red got sick and tired of the enormous amount of attention and assumptions of wild behaviour.

"it grows...and i sleep standing up... "

Samson
The strength
That's in your arms
Oh to be
Your stunning bride

Samson
Your hair
Glistening like sun
Oh would
That it were mine

Samson
Your hair
That's in my hands
I'll keep it safe
You're mine
You're mine

He said wait
Said wait
Delilah, my babe
Delilah, my babe
Said wait
Said wait
Delilah, my babe
Delilah, my babe
Said wait
Said wait
Delilah, my babe
You lied in my face
You cut off my hair
You lied in my bed

Samson
Your stay
With your 'lilah
I'll hold you in my hands
Your hair
Your strength
My man
My man

He said wait
Said wait
Delilah, my babe
Delilah, my babe
Said wait
Said wait
Delilah, my babe
Delilah, my babe
He said wait
Said wait
Delilah, my babe
Delilah, my babe

I used to have long hair, but I was never hip enough to be a hippie.

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.

My hair is getting moppy. Maybe I should cut it so that floop and the other jocks don't beat me up after school (heehee!!). ;)
floop Posted - 10/06/2005 : 13:47:06
you had long hair? heheh.. hippy!
Carl Posted - 10/06/2005 : 13:45:34
I've had really long hair and really short hair. People probably do still kind of see you as odd if your a bloke with long hair. Maybe not as much, but there are still little scumbags around who'll take the rip out of a long-haired guy, y'know, 'hippy' and stuff!

Friend of mine had the same thing - over in SA his long hair was standard surfer issue, whereas suddenly up in Yorkshire blokes would want to beat him up - only stopping when they realised he was foreign. Then for some reason it would be okay. The mind truly boggles.

fwiw, when i cut off my hair i got far FEWER reactions from women. They're bored with me now whereas before they would just lock eyes with me like they couldn;t help it.

...and do my best not to be all totally ...whatever in the hell it is I am...too something.

Gonna try to not be that.

I think.

I've never really changed my appearance that drastically, apart from when I cut off my long hair. The only thing I noticed then was that people didn't come up to me in the street anymore asking me for drugs.

You know, I think I had a similar experience from losing my long hair. Or maybe that was just because I left college. I don't recall anyone actually asking me for drugs, but I do recall people asking me if I did them. That's not the case anymore, fortunately.

Weird enough, I've gone through a thousand pictures and haven't found a single one of me with long hair. Long, curly, shiny hair. Thanks God I started to lose it and had to cut it out. Old Wise Mother Nature.

And all the drugs that I don't have the guts to take
To soothe my mind so I'm always sober
Always aching, always heading towards

That's because you look bad now. And dangerous. In a good way.

PS: And... what Andy said in the flirting thread

Reeeeeally? Despite being both a brunette and a teacher, I have never ever ever ever ever encountered that. Nor would I be interested.

Yup - excuse me for *shock horror* saying that people actually believe those stereotypes but yes.

There's also been some added dominatrix/stern school teacher fantasy weirdness.

It's that so much of my behaviour previously was dismissed as just general foreign craziness. Now it's taken seriously - no matter how much I joke and kid around (and they're the same jokes ffs!) now suddenly they're taken seriously. On the plus side some people are now actually listening to what I say, instead of me needing to repeat myself endlessly.
It's been less than a week so at the moment I've only really noticed how my colleagues and close friends are reacting - not yet had a night of proper fun with my new self yet.

What's your point? That people now expect you to be serious? I don't get it. Plus, you have yet to answer my question about what you mean when you say that people treat you differently.

(Gawd, can I be more pressuring?)

Yeah and when I dyed my hair black my mom told me that I was subconciously rebelling against my christian boss.
I told her I was about 2 seconds away from belting her...

And we all want to see the new dark hair surfer!

Carolynanna, I once gained 30 pounds too, so I know how you felt. It wasn't from birth control though. It was from beer.
