Which is better? Aiming to impress, but not to show too much effort; suitable for work as well as the pub; less ridiculous-looking is preferable.

Obviously, utilise this thread for your own fashion-related conundrums, I wouldn't want it to be entirely egocentric.

EDIT: photo's gone as the occasion is past. For reference, picture 1: beige Hong Kong Phooey t-shirt. Picture 2: burgundy/purpley checked shirt.

I think you folks should now post your own dilemmas and let the fashion gurus here decide.

Maybe you should try going to a Canadian bar next time.

Yep, so I went with the crazy purple number. Having worn it through the day I was less of the this-is-ridiculous opinion by the evening, which was nice, so none of the self-conscious things, as well-spotted by Tre.

Unfortunately, there were no gay lumberjacks in the bar, so my night crashed and burned.

i say wear a black shirt. you can't go wrong with a black shirt, ever.
VoVat Posted - 09/30/2005 : 11:36:18
I like the second one pretty well. I'd probably wear a shirt like that. I don't think it looks particularly lumberjack-ish; it's plaid, but not the right colors or style for me to think of lumberjacks.

That's really really really true.
Choose a colour of blue that matches your eyes.
With your light hair and fair skin your eyes can get washed out.
The blue shirt will just bring them out more.

checked shirt!

However, the last thing you want to do if you are trying to impress is feel self conscious in any way. So if you feel silly, don't wear it. I think it's fab though.

The purple checkered number rocks - don't listen to them.

Fire made it good.

Hahahahaha

Not the purple checkered number. Makes you look like a gay lumberjack.

I liked that sweater you were wearing at the beach.

Did your Nana knit that for you?

Tell us about her! What do you think she'll be more impressed by? Does she like Hong Kong Phooey (and therefore a good conversation piece with opportune raucous laughter moments), for example?

Cheeseman1000 Posted - 09/29/2005 : 14:42:33
It's the fine choice in sun-spectacles, Mike, you've got that 70's NYC thing going on. Get a ripped shirt, you could be the new Richard Hell.

I think I might take the photo's down, I've just noticed: SLAPHEAD!

Ooh, he's got an arm off!
Sir Rockabye Posted - 09/29/2005 : 14:35:43
I can be honest and say that I see nothing ridiculous about the shirt.

Wear it proudly.

Oh, and just noticed that comment about my coolness. I try Cheeseman, I try.

To be perfectly honest, I have a fairly tenuous grasp on fashion. I bought the shirt as a costume for a 90's party, but I actually quite like it, the fit at least. Plus, I bought it in Camden, which apparently conveys some sort of retro credibility. I do feel faintly silly wearing, which is my only problem.

Ooh, he's got an arm off!
Llamadance Posted - 09/29/2005 : 14:27:18
I'll completely ruin it for you then Simon, the second one is much better.

much cooler.

Cheeseman1000 Posted - 09/29/2005 : 13:58:10
What is this Brian, the early 90's?

Obviously you kids have no idea what's hip in Swinging London these days.
I'm starting to think I'd have to sew up my SMYT t-shirt to impress you people.

And Tom, who do you think I'm trying to impress? A big group of blokes?

I'll be brutally frank here: in my opinion, out of the photos posted, the coolest guy here is Sir Rockabye. I just have a faint idea that the shirt looks ridiculous and no-one wants to tell me so that I'll make a fool of myself.
Well, it was £2 in the market. Who's laughing now?!

Ooh, he's got an arm off!
Broken Face Posted - 09/29/2005 : 13:46:37
why not wear the tshirt under the plaid one, and if it gets hot or something, just take off the plaid?

misleadtheworld Posted - 09/29/2005 : 13:46:32
It depends. Who are you trying to impress?

Sir Rockabye Posted - 09/29/2005 : 13:32:31
I prefer the second.

Yeah, I'd take the first one but I'm not a fan either. The t-shirt makes you look a tiny bit less like a nerd.

I don't like either shirt.

However, if I have to choose between them, I'll go with Hong Kong Phooey.

That's no help whatsoever, but thanks for the contribution.
They're poor photos, which doesn't really help.
