I'm pretty guilty of this. If there's a big list of topics, I usually end up adding my rubbish two cents, often in the form of a stupid quip, or whatever. It'd be okay if I did'nt leave list of topics at the top with my name as last post. Is there a help group for this?

Or leave the post count, but make it so it's totally random.

Maybe we could just remove the post count but leave the little bees?

i beg your pardon, i did not bring back Insane Silver Skulls just for the sake of nostalgia, but i think the topic is still relevant. as much today as it was when it first started. if not more so..

And this is the objection I don't understand. Nonsense is suddenly more objectionable because it's in an older thread? If no one has posted in a thread for a certain amount of time, it should be totally ignored, even if it's still open to new posts and somebody has something to say in response to it? I really can't agree. Nor do I understand how bringing back old threads means "being thrown back in time." With some obvious exceptions (like, say, the "Insane Silver Skulls" thread, and other things that are revived simply for the sake of nostalgia), I don't see how the age of a thread is at all relevant. And for on-topic stuff that's already been discussed, I honestly prefer bringing back the old threads to making new ones. I can understand that people don't want to go back and dig through a whole bunch of old threads looking for one that might have been relevant, so I'm not saying I blame, say, Martian Honey for making a new thread about legalizing drugs. But if she HAD dug up one of the old threads on that topic, I'd be cool with that. I guess this is less relevant in threads that have totally degenerated into nonsense, but I'm (obvioulsy) pro-nonsense and generally pro-jokes, so if you have a nonsensical or jokey post you want to make in reply to something you missed the first time around, that's perfectly okay with me.

I like it when Frank posts and when you listen to a Catholics bootleg circa DITS and you just know they're gonna rock your ass off and at the shows I like it when Kim has to put down her cigarette so she can tackle the next song.

Thats fine really, but sometimes when a post-whore goes away for a while then comes back they seem to ressurect every thread that they weren't here for. I think this is the objection. It's weird for everyone else being thrown back in time a week or a month. But if it makes you happy little post whore, then it makes you happy! Bless you and your nonsense.

I'm also in the camp of getting rid of post counts, I don't give a shit how often I post compared to someone else. I always wonder if I am supposed to be ever so offended when someone points out they're been here for years and have half the posts. I usually decide if they're boring enough to point that out then they're boring, full stop. Hence the low post count.

Well, I usually try to read every thread, unless I know they're about something that doesn't interest me. I'll contribute to threads where there's really nothing else relevant to say, but I'll also contribute to threads where I have something significant to say. I don't discriminate. <g> A lot of the time, though, once I've said my piece on a serious subject I won't have anything else to say in that thread, while my supply of nonsense is well-nigh unlimited.

And I like post counts. They don't really signify anything, and there are plenty of forums that don't list them, but I like to know how much people are posting.

dayanara Posted - 09/06/2005 : 17:15:06
don't get me wrong, i think people should feel free to post in as many threads as they want. i know people have picked on kathryn or monkey because they have high post counts, but even though tbey're in most of the threads in gen chat, i always find that they'll contributes something to the threads they're posting in. the comments are ususally funny, thoughtful, SOMETHING. so that doesn't really bother me. but when i log on and someone has blanketed the entire board with little one sentence replies that are totally out of left field i don't even try to wade through it. and of course when the entire first page is suddenly filled with threads that are a few weeks old that certainly doesn't help.

i vote we wipe out post counts entirely. what do we need them for anyway?

post whore!

Sometimes I thinks threads that are active and interesting and current get buried by threads that have run their course but are sustained by very little. It's the kind thing to do, to just let them rest in peace. Grave digger.

nah, honestly I don't see the point in stressing over who posts what and where. The only time I have concerns about zombie threads is when they have bad feeling attached or are totally pointless, but usually I just don't bother reading them.

Just out of curiosity, what threads do you think should die? There have been a few I didn't like, but I think it's pretty easy to avoid those. I guess if you find a particular thread offensive, that's fair, but I generally don't think any thread DESERVES to die. Except maybe that "What are you drinking?" one. <g>

Sometimes the -threads-that-should-die- don't die because of post whores and nostalgia queens but if they're happy in the little dead threads doing the post whore thing then let them whore I say. I post a fair whack but don't feel the need to post in every thread...

If anything is 'killing' the forum though it's the dark and dodgy overlord, think of the children!

There's too many of them too.
