Posted - 08/20/2005 : 13:58:18 I saw them last night at the Paradise Rock club in Boston. They put on an amazing show. It was sort of cabaret like. Have you guys seen or heard them?
A local band from Boston called Reverend Glasseye opened up for them. They were pretty good as well. The second band, Throw Rag, was from Palm Springs. also worth checking out.
On a side note, The Paradise is where The Pixies had their unannounced show last week. Supposedly it was filmed for the DVD. That's the reason that so few tickets were available.
In any case, check out Gogol Bordello.

Posted - 02/22/2006 : 14:08:19 I saw them play "Start Wearing Purple" on Conan O'Brian a few months ago, and it kicked ass. I started digging up tracks of theirs online right away, as I couldn't find much in stores. I'm a big fan of their energy/antics, as most who like them are. I almost got to see them a month ago opening up for Cake. It was my brother's birthday, so I wanted to bring him (birthday Cake. Get it? Get it?! Ha!). Alas, I couldn't make it. But I will see Gogol live. I've got one of their albums recorded by Steve Albini.

Posted - 02/22/2006 : 10:01:17 I've been seeing posters for these guys around town lately, and had been interested just because I enjoy the writing of Nikolai Gogol. Reading all this, though, I might have to figure out when they're coming and make a point of seeing it.

Posted - 02/22/2006 : 05:01:46 Yeah I have a few of their songs. I like them because they remind of the Polish folk music that I listen to when I visit my Dziadzu.

Posted - 08/24/2005 : 09:09:15 Eugene, the singer, was in a band here in VT when he first got off the boat called: The Fags. They put out 1 cd & 2 songs on comps which are fucking punk rawk, man. I listen to that more than my Gogol Bordello cd. |

They are pretty cool. They sort of remind me of a band I saw with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah called Devotchka. I like that whole gypsy/European sound.
One of the members of Gogo Bordello is playing Alex in the film version of Everything Is Illuminated (http://www.apple.com/trailers/warner_independent_pictures/everything_is_illuminated.html - which looks awesome by the way). And the trailer for said film features two songs by none other than Devotchka.

Oh my God, thanks for the heads up- I look forward to seeing the movie, now, hoping it won't disappoint.
So is the guy who plays Alex the singer of Gogol Bordello? He looks quite different, without moustaches and all. |

Yeah, they're sort of The Pogues of Russia.....But with more stage antics. They have these two girls from Thailand singing and dancing about. There's a real Gypsy feel to them. It's not the sort of music I necessarily like to throw on the stereo too often, but they're certainly a good act to see live!

Posted - 08/20/2005 : 14:20:00 I've heard of them because they have common members with Firewater, who I like a lot. But I've never seen either live.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, you might want to check out Firewater's latest album "The Man On The Burning Tightrope" if you haven't heard them yet.
