I thought it was about time they had their own thread, seeing as there are a few fans on here. And it may as well be now seeing as their new album, Twin Cinema' is out on Monday (I can tell you it's another cracker).

I can think of no band in the history of music that has created so many damn good pop songs. And their vocals are just sublime (especially Neko Case's).

Seriously, this band are without doubt one of my favourite of all time (and NME don't even rate them Steve ; )). I think it's criminal that they are not absolutely HUUUUUUUGE!

So come on fellow Porno fans, profess your love!

Middle Cyclone is a grower, and the album cover is beyond awesome. I love the froggy song at the end. Great white noise for sleeping in hotels.

There's a behind the scenes video on Amazon that's worth a watch.

I can't get into Get Guilty at all. I've tried.

I have the Neko album, and I quite enjoy it. My wife and I are going to see her live in a few weeks.

Anyone listen to the new neko case album “middle cyclone”? It’s pretty good. It’s ranked in the top 10 on mega critic with a score of 82. I’m planning on seeing her perform at the Winnipeg folk festival in july.

Also I have the recent ac newman cd “get guilty”. I really enjoy that too. Mood of the album seems to be similar to the last new pornographers album…..

I'm not into New Pornographers at all, but I remember I liked "Broken Beads" (or is it "Breads"?).

And I really like "Myriad Harbour". Llama, I know what you mean about it sounding like a Pixies song.

I was going to make a Lorena Bobbitt reference, but then I remember it was no longer the early nineties.

I like this album a lot, though like Jefrey, the second half seems to drift a bit.

The thing that's bugging me though, is Myriad Harbour. It's a great song, but I can't help think that either it should have been a Pixies song, or it sounds like one (esp. at the beginning). Anyone any idea which Pixies' song it sounds like?

what's the deal with neko and tapers, anyway? live boots of her solo stuff are impossible to find (all neko solo is forbidden on the dime and plenty of other trading sites) and there are always plenty of cryptic messages in the NP shows about her being anti-taping but i've never heard anything specific or anything directly from her.

i hate anyone who doesn't like me.

thetradersden.org is a good place for neko case live shows.
i've got a couple of excellent soundbaord recordings from there....

Well the first half has already grown on me. It's an all round excellent album. Like Twin Cinema, I think this one will last.

I can't wait to see them in November.

she does one beautiful song (Challengers), and another song to herself on the boring half. And plenty of backup vocals. But that's pretty much standard - Neko 2 songs, Dan Bejar 3 songs, and the rest AC Newman.

So I give the first half a B+ and the second half a C-. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I've listened to it 10 or so times now it's it doesn't seem to be growing very fast....maybe the B-sides will make up for it.

Upon first listen, I am the complete opposite. The second half has grabbed me already, but the first half is gonna take time.

Hmmm, I don't mind the slower stuff, but I one of my favorites is "It's Only Divine Right" - I'm hoping for more of that in the future. The second half still bores me. I was really hoping that this band would be very Pixies-like in that just about every song is a classic, and this album's kind of made them fallible in my eyes. Love the album art though.

All the Old Showstoppers near the end when the background vocals come in: almost came out of my skin yesterday listening to it in the car. I love Mutiny also. Overall really nice effort...can't wait to see them in November with Spoon.

First listen...how exciting. Vocals and instrumentation sound different and interesting.

Well, it'll take a lot more listens to like I think (which is a good thing).

The New Pornographers reveal album details

Vancouver band aim for a summer release
The New Pornographers have revealed some details of their forthcoming album.

The follow-up to 2005's highly successful 'Twin Cinema' is expected to be released in August, and features the band's longest song to date.

"We've got demos in various stages of completion for about 14 songs," frontman Carl Newman told Under the Radar.

"We have our longest song yet at six-and-a-half minutes. We're shooting for an end of August release, which means we'll have to get it completed by the end of April so that it can leak the first week of May."

Past collaborators including singer Neko Case are expected to make their return on the as-yet untitled album.

"I think it's going to be a little more epic-sounding, maybe a little weirder and more minimal instrumentally," said Newman. "There are one or two songs that are full-on ballads. Vocally I think it's going to be more over-the-top."

The band have just announced that they will perform at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California on April 28.

thanks cult. ya i’m one lucky mofo. and it’s funny cause when we were watching neko there was this other guy wearing the same shirt. no shit. so I went up to him and we started chatting. he wasn't from winnipeg, but iowa. he drove to washinton for the sasquatch festival then drove 10 hours to winnipeg from iowa. that's hardcore!

i usually wear something from my fb closet for shows. at sasquatch i was wearing my fb&c’s devil shirt and some guys jumps in front of me and starts saying i’ve got the coolest t ever! he says he’s a huge frank fan, and get’s out his digital camera and starts taking pics of the devil shirt. we then have a solid 30 minute frank discussion.

Plus you got to meet Neko. :) You're a lucky lucky man.

finally got to see neko live the other night. great show! she really has a truly amazing voice. she played the winnipeg folk fest- to an audience of around 10,000. she's got some real funny remarks between songs. she was going on an on about pigging out on perogies after the show. she's part ukranian and there's a large percentage of ukranians in manitoba.

so anyways, after the show the mrs and i were walking by the food stands and guess who walks by all alone. neko! no shit. so i'm like "hey neko". she keeps walking straight ahead but says something like this isn't the time kid! she just came back from some vendor who was selling perogies but just shut down and wouldn't serve her perogies. no shit! can you believe it. and fuck was she pissed off. i thought she was joking but mrs fu said you better leave her alone. so we just hung around and casually watched the situation. some folk fest volunteer came up and gave her a whale's tail to munch on. she seemed like she was calming down. so the mrs and i approach her and say something like that is total bullshit. she laughs. then we have a nice little chat about perogies and the crazy hail storm at the sasquatch festival where she got pelted by hail while on stage. she's very friendly and personable and we even got a pic.
