I play guitar without a pick so the fingernails of my right hand I´ve grown long but every night I play I wear them down to practically nothing. Last night we bumped into a bunch of French gypsies so after a few hours of that really fast swing my indexnail was worn down to past the little hardskin ridge beneath. I read once a flamenco guitarist called Juan Martín rubs his with oliveoil to strengthen them. Does anyone got any recommendations, like say particular ways of filing or lacquering them?

Dear DaisyG,

Please go directly to the mayo thread. Unless mayo can help toughen nails.

Thank you

Leave it in as evidence. Bazooka Joe's got deep pockets!

This is beginning to remind me of that episode of The Simpson where Lisa has chewing gum in her hair.

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

gelatin really doesn't do much.

you know what, i didn't think of it at first because it is not natural, but they do make this stuff... it's pretty much like super glue... you can find it in the nail section in a drug store... but it's buy sally hanson and it's supposed to fill broken nails.

part of it is power and part of it is super glue. just take a tiny bit of that powder and fill it with the glue in the back of your (the part where the tip of your nail and the skin meet) and it will strengthen it.

i've tried it for broken nails and it worked well.

Jelly...gelatin, perhaps?

yank. *hee-hee*

Eat Jelly, straight from the packet. That's Jelly as you know it, not as the Yanks know it.

Juan Martin eh? Not heard that name in a while.

yes... olive oil or any oil is good. drink milk products/take calcuim tablets.

like surfer said, file in the same direction and file at a 45 degree angle to your nail.

some clear nail polish, or top coat may also help.

good luck!!!

This girl can't help you, Owen. I don't do nails (or heels or makeup other than eyeliner). Sorry.

I've heard a lot of guitarists swear by false nails.
Talk about a girly thread...

How's that for a slice of fried gold?
Surfer Rosa Posted - 08/09/2005 : 05:00:54
Any oil will do them good Newo. As for filing always in the same direction. Some guitarists I know use superglue on their fingers (like boxers do) so that there's a hard surface to act as a guard before you start wearing down your nail/fingertip.

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.
