Posted - 07/31/2005 : 04:35:05 Which anti spy software do you use... and which is the best free software which will help me get rid of spyware? I actually tried to purchase No Adware 3.0 earlier but for some reason it will not accept my credit card details. So is there any free stuff out there which will find and kill all of the crap on my system?
Cheers
Stu

Posted - 07/31/2005 : 07:43:05 stuart, it's usually the case that one anti-spyware program can't remove all spyware. that's why you use two or three. i really recommend you do that. give microsoft's a try. make sure you have the latest adaware too (SE 1.06 i think) and you're doing a full scan.

Posted - 07/31/2005 : 07:23:17 Cheers Llama... I have Adaware Free version but this allowed the spyware that Norton picked up to get on my computer and didn't even flag it. Counterspy has picked up loads and either quarantined or removed them... and for only a tenner I think I should maybe get this (plus it has alot of good reviews and is rated veryu highly).
Btw Llama... I have just gone into Counter Spy and looked at the Quarantined files and tried to remove them permanently... some of them were able to be removed some not. I take it that once something is quarantined then it is no longer a problem?

Posted - 07/31/2005 : 06:08:01 Microsoft AntiSpyware seems pretty good, I run it every night.
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
I also use Adaware every now and again:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
and, like ShakeyShake, Spybot S&D (but mainly if I feel I've got something the other two can't get rid of).
I'm not sure which is the best of these three really. I think a lot people use both Spybot and Ad-aware.
