I used to have that Lard album "Last temptation of Reid" on tape. I can't say I would recommend to buy it without hesitation. Industrial is not exactly my cup of tea, regardless the lyrics.
i didn't remember hellnation being in there, i gave away that cd almost immediately after listening to it for a couple of times.
i understand that industrial isn't good for anyone but let's say that if one has to own a couple of classics of industrial has to have
Lard: the last temptation of reid
Ministry - KefalhXQ
and
NIN - pretty hate machine

Posted - 07/26/2005 : 03:50:45 the DK weren't about the music and they were pretty bad musicians anyway. no album is what you would call a breakthrough in style or innovative in any way. i don't think that i could recognize many DK songs if played instrumental. the DK tried all styles of punk. the classic of "fresh fruit..." and "plastic surgery..." hardcore in "in god we trust" "franchenchrist" was somewhat experimental and "bedtime..." is musically an average punk album. it's the words that give the DK that extra something. eventually they abbandoned the try to make music and JB concetrated on politics. in fact JB's solo works are spoken word and when he wants to make an album he just makes it with someone that can actually write and play music like ministry or the melvins. his bandmates being the untalented crap they are didn't last long as musicians either. peligro recorded a self tittled album which is just bad punk and he was pathetic enough to include in it the only DK song he ever wrote "i spy". east bay ray (which apparently was the "musician" of the DK, the one who wanted to make good music and not just politics) recorded under the name of "scrapyard" possibly the worst album in history :"sex is sex". now when i found this in a record shop i was extremely enthusiastic. i always buy alternative tentacles stuff when i see them in a store, but this one was EBR's post DK album so i didn't hesitate a sec to pay a stupid amount of money to have it. terrible error. i'll just say that it includes a "lady marmelade" cover. brrrr.... so they just returned to milk the DK cow. only that that cow was Jello's lyrics that made a legend out of an otherway meaningless band. and they don't seem good enough to make a band of their own.

I agree. Horrible album. Dear Abby, Rambozo the Clown,... It all sounds even worse than their legions of followers. Actually, I don't care much for Frankenchrist either. The sound of a band going downhill...
Moon over Marin is their best non-hardcore song, and maybe best song overall. It would even be great in an acoustic version.

Posted - 07/25/2005 : 18:03:09 oh, and this reunion is not pointless. it's criminal. just quoting:
1) "Punk's not dead It just deserves to die When it becomes another stale cartoon"
2) "Is this a state of mind Or just another label The joy and hope of an alternative Have become its own cliche"
and the best of all, particularly prophetic (side note: ring any bells about this place lately?) :
3)"What's ripped us apart even more than drugs Are the thieves and the goddamn liars Flipping people off when they share their stuff When someone falls are there any friends? Harder core than thou for a year or two Then it's time to get a real job...
That farty old rock and roll attitude's back "It's competition, man, we wanna break big." Who needs friends when the money's good That's right, the '70s are back."
jello is the last idealist left. naive and useless and helpless maybe but he's genuinely a good man. don't fuck him by going to any DK shows or by bying any DK stuff. the DK are dead and burried. don't support the blood sucking zombies. there should be more people like him. it would be a better world.
PS: bedtime for democracy was the perfect goodbye album. they reached the top of their possibilities then jello just trashed the group. continuing the same punk rock formula was not a good idea. and he had the guts to just split the band and move over before it became meaningless, making a legend out of it. unfortunately his bandmates were just anarchists for sale. the green day\offspring revival of punk made them hungry for money. fuck them. "california uber alles" and "bleed for me" should never be used for a godamn commercial.
