Posted - 02/17/2013 : 00:09:15 new thread or just keep talking in this one? This shortened season will be interesting for the main reason that only west teams play west and east teams play east during regular season; the finals will be the only time the 2 teams play each other since april 2011 at least. not a chance LA is making the finals again.....
FYI...the canucks have lost to the stanley cup winners 3 years running....something to think about.

Posted - 09/14/2007 : 08:50:32 i was going to ask the same question. any londoners checking out the game, you are lucky to get a ticket to see the stanley cup champs. they are playing a shite team but it is a new season and anything can happen. you will be amazed how fast the game is in person.

Posted - 09/08/2007 : 03:44:44 Didn't feel like starting a new topic, but figured this would be the best place to start:
I've had a fantasy hockey league on yahoo for several years now, but I always seem to end up with 4 or 5 deadbeat managers. If any of you fine folks have interest, email me, soon!
And, to start some more hockey dialogue, what do you think of the NHL opening in London this year as well as the soon-to-be-announced outdoor game in Buffalo on New Year's Day?

Posted - 06/07/2007 : 11:33:33 I had my fists well up when Pronger lifted the cup. Then I read thar he had a seperated shoulder and felt a little better ;)
Nice for Teemu even though he blew as Shark. I think it's nice that he came back to the team he was most associated with for his last years. Makes retiring his number there legit.

Posted - 06/07/2007 : 05:40:06 The Ducks definitely deserved their win last night. They played really well, or maybe Ottawa were just poor (that 3rd Anaheim goal just sums it up). Plus the Ducks have the best beards.

closest thing to the jets actually winning the cup!
it would be nice if a canadian team actually wins the cup in the next 10 years but at least anaheim has 16 canadian players on their roster.

Posted - 06/05/2007 : 08:46:18 Anybody else want to comment on the Alfredsson slap shot? I know the commentators were talking about it a bunch last night, but it's pretty absent from coverage I've read online. Anyone really believe he didn't intend to do it?
And, has anyone noticed that the defenses just collapse around the net, blocking everything and anyone. It's their system now that they can't clutch and grab, but it has the same effect...clogs the game and makes it kinda boring.
Grapes on Versus/NBC/? would be pretty cool, know it would never happen, but the things he says are probably pretty true...embrace the hits and fighting and then the US would probably be interested.
Stu, you need any other game tips? I hope that Wednesday isn't the last game of the season...I wish for a game 7 every year :)

Posted - 06/05/2007 : 08:02:33 stu, it's so cute how you put "power play" in quotes.
If a player acts especially bad, he can be banned from a future game, not just that one or a power play.

Posted - 06/05/2007 : 07:10:41 The main thing I didn't get was 'icing'. It has something to do with the puck travelling round the side of the rink or something? Maybe I'm way off. [EDIT] Just looked it up, it's the distance the puck travels, it just so happens most times I've seen this happen it's been down the edge of the rink and gone round the back of the goal.
The thing I like a lot about hockey is that when a player is punished it does actually benefit the other team through the 'power play'.
In football (soccer, whatever) a player could get sent off in the last minute and be banned for the next match, meaning the team he commited the offence against gains little or no advantage, but a totally different team does in the next game because the player is banned.

Posted - 06/05/2007 : 05:08:31 I just watched the game, thought it was very entertaining. That second goal for the Ducks was great. I soon got tired of hearing the boring fans with the same chant every two minutes though. Also I don't fully understand some of the rules but I'll get the hang of it.
I'm looking forward to Wednesday's game now.

Posted - 06/04/2007 : 22:22:54 This finals is making Sean Avery look like a gentleman. This time I really am done. What the crap was Alfredsson doing shooting a puck at someone? I've never seen that before.
God, I love hockey, but between Bettman, Campbell, and the idiocy of Brett Hull, Jones, Engblom, and the rest of the crap commentators we get, the NHL plain sucks.
Keith Jones actually said he didn't want the point system changed becuase it would confuse the fans. The point system that gives points for losing and has some games worth more than others. Yeah, that makes sense if I'm trying to become a fan of hockey.
Grapes looked like he couldn't get out of there quick enough hanging with those idiots tonight.

i don't really care who wins. lots of manitoba connections to the ducks-- penner, carlyle, teemu.
don't really like cheering for ottawa. i was at a pub on monday and surprised how many winnipegers were cheering the sens. seems like they forget the peanut butter fiasco. i think it was ottawa's 1st or 2nd season. they were setting records for futility. anyways they were playing the jets at home. some company was giving out jars of peanut butter at the start of the game. i think the jets were up 3 goals going into the 3rd period and then the sens came back to win. so humiliating. so all the fans started wipping their peanut butter jars at the players and the ice was completely littered.

Since the English football season has finished I've felt lost, so any sport will do, even if I have to tape it at one in the morning. Go Ducks! Or Senators!? Oh, I don't know who I want to win.

Posted - 06/02/2007 : 18:09:08 I thought the Ducks were rubbish as soon as they got got Kenan from Kenan and Kel doing that knucklepuck thing. Does that really work? I must admit though I thought it was fair good when that cowboy one was doing all the tricks with the puck. Yee hah! Seriously though, I didn't know the Ducks were a real team until tonight.

Posted - 05/31/2007 : 00:24:11 There's no way I can cheer on Anaheim. Let me illustrate:
1) A team in California is no team at all. 2) A team made of Canadians should be in Canada. I don't care how much money is in California. 3) A team named from a movie starring Emilio gets no respect. 4) I'm tired of everything Canadian being bought out.
On the other hand, a team that can get Arnold to drop the puck is almost worth cheering. Even so, I'll cheer on Ottawa anyway, but I appreciate the attempt to ease my woe.

Tonight I plan to experience my first Stanley Cup game in High Definition...likely to add to the "upgrades" in the home theatre in the near future. I'd go if I could, but hockey is three hours' drive from me, and that's the Ovechkins, er, Caps.
