Posted - 07/11/2005 : 11:25:07 Do you wear one? Do you have several? Do you care about the time?
I always wore a watch, I worked underneath several clocks that reminded me and my co-workers of the time, as we had to be hyper-aware of each second flying by. I haven't worn a watch in three-plus years, most of the time I can't remember what day of the week it is. In a masochistic way, I miss always being aware of the time. I don't think I've even seen my watch in a year.

Posted - 08/20/2005 : 16:44:37 Not worn a watch since I started playing guitar some 10 years ago- drives me nuts having it on my left wrist, and always gets in the way while playing on the right wrist, so that was that.
Besides, in these days of mobile phones and Tamagotchis with built-in clocks, I don't need no stinking watches. I'm pretty drunk.

I think it only applies to the rubbery black watch bands. When you sweat and you take them off. Ewwwww! |

Posted - 08/19/2005 : 00:47:55 I always wear my watch but that is more as a piece of jewellery than a time keeping device - my arms are quite long and look odd (in my opinion) if I don't break up the expansive length with something chunky on the wrists. It's quite large - chunky black leather strap and a raised tank style mirrored face. I hate checking my mobile all the time which is why I won't use it to check the time.

Thank you for your answer, Heywood, and thank you as well for reposting that photo, as it features a watch, which is the topic here.

Posted - 08/18/2005 : 20:21:54 i actually agree with two folks so far...
like starmekitten, i can't wear most watches b/c of nickel-allergy... plastic ones i don't mind so much...
like homerspetmonkey, i don't feel naked unless i'm naked.
:)
i don't wear a watch. haven't for years. my phone, like most of yours, has a clock built-in so no real neason exists for me to carry one...
until i get one of those omegas...:) |

why do you need a watch if you're a musician up on stage?
For instance:

No, this is not a cheap ploy for me to post a pic of Paul Banks. Actually, yes, it is.
Still, I do wonder -- why do you need a watch if you're playing a show?

They are good for knowing when you set time is up. Or to make you look like you alway got somewhere to be (but you have to look at it incessantly to convince people of this |

Posted - 08/12/2005 : 18:31:39 I just got a really cool watch from an American friend of mine who collects antique watchs, a really nice sixties silver(it looks silver ) German watch. Before that I had a plastic Casio one from ten years ago which never seems to go out of production(the one Napoleon Dynamite wore in the movie), I really liked it! I think people tend to use their phones now for time keeping, as already said?

Posted - 08/12/2005 : 18:17:13 I always wear a watch, except in the shower or when I'm washing dishes. (It's waterproof, but I still don't want to take chances.) I don't think I could deal with not having one, even if I have no need to know what time it is.
I go through watchbands more quickly than most people seem to. I think the one I'm using now is the third one for this watch. I'm not really sure why they break so easily.

Posted - 07/12/2005 : 01:54:31 No watch till I get the Movado I want for my 2 yr. anniversary. Till then my cell phone works quite well. It also doubles as a decently functioning alarm clock. That ALONE is worth $50 a month. |

Posted - 07/11/2005 : 13:06:12 When I was a kid I collected watches. I don't even know how it started. It was my father who always found these bizard and interesting wrist charms for me. I always felt so cool wearing them regardless of what anyone else thought. I think my favorites were my jettson's watch with stars that moved for the seconds hand, a Kraft Mac and Cheese watch with a fliptop that revealed the digital display, and a cracker jacks watch. My mother still has them all somewhere.
Today...I wear mainly bracelets but I do have a plain silver watch I wear to work. This thread is making me think I should dig up those old watches the kids might get a kick out of them in the clinic.
