I have lived in two houses in the past 27 years that have had strange goings-on's. I don't like to use the term 'ghost' or 'spirit' as it denotes sheets and "wooooooooooo's!" However, I cannot dismiss the possibility of these incidents belonging to something of past-tense. More or less a manifested memory, or a conscious-born recall that spills into our tangible 3rd dimension. For instance, our memories are always strongest when it comes to the recall of a trauma, or something big enough to really get our emotions worked. We can conjure or create symbols galore and tag them to this/these memories as a way to always remember the significance of these past incidents as an approach for safety or sentiment. My theory is that hauntings are the same thing...except it's spaces that have absorbed the fall-out of our emotions and/or hightened excitements which have adhered to said areas. Perhaps these personifications have the ability to be just that...shapes created from past puzzles in order to, or, in an attempt to, help us recognize something which is strong enough to appear out of nowhere. A natural (or supernatural, as they are scientifically yet unexplained) steam valve, or pressure bypass for a force that (like everything else in our physical world) needs a release of overflow. Whatever the case is, it seems the majority of us like to slap on the easy label of 'haunting'. That's fine.

And as much as I can be happy and content with my theory which I have explained above, I still almost shit my pants when I encounter this stuff. Growing up, I was not a stranger to haunted houses. Now, nearly five years after living in one of them, it's happening again. The reason I am posting is because it strangely involves the Pixies! Last month I saw the Pixies in Los Angeles and was extremely lucky to get into the after party show. The next Monday at work I laminated my backstage pass, all-access wristband, and parking pass onto a foam-core backing. In my room my wall has adorned this article of personal pride for a month. Until it decided to fly off of it last Saturday morning for a twelve hour period from 2AM to 2PM.

My brother and I were playing poker for hours in my room. Above him on the wall is where my Pixies board is (which hangs above an open doorway to my walk-in closet and bathroom area). It popped off. We both laughed and I put it back up. A second later it jumped off again. Not fell. Jumped. And then a third time. I investigated the wall...no vibrations, no earthquakes, and the mounting is not crooked in any way. In fact, that same wall has many things hanging from it. In an attempt to challenge the situation, we left the apartment altogether to have a cigarette and logically dispell the twilight zone feelings. Upon re-entry, we found it again on the floor. This repeated for, like I said, 12 hours. At one point, we became awash in a chill-zone which moved around the area...and indeed the wall was cold as hell where the picture was. The other side of the wall was normal. Whatever was happening, something did not want the picture to be there. And my brother, 29 years of age, burst into tears and begged for it not to be put back in that spot, all the while assuring me it was not himself who was feeling this sadness. He went to bed...I could not. While exhilarated, I was unnerved, as this was my room this was happening in.

The thing that spooks me is that it is the same feeling which affected me in my former house 5 years ago, as if it is the same feeling or memory. But why now? And why here? I even asked my landlord if anything like this has been reported. He said no, and laughed and responded, "sounds like you got a fuckin' ghost!"

Well, last night was the first night since Saturday night I've slept at my apartment, and I haven't put the picture back up since Saturday afternoon. Before I left for work today, I rehung it to see if it will be on the floor when I get home. Part of me wants it to be, and the other absolutely does not. I think my annoyance at it is overpowering my fear, and yet, as I said earlier, it is enough to make me crap on sight.

I contacted a paranormal 'expert' via email yesterday who said they would be happy to investigate if it continues. Perhaps I will out of curiosity.

A coworker explained that in the Philippines it is bad luck to have a house or dwelling where the front door faces any other door within, because your front door acts as a positive portal for anything to enter, and an opposite door represents an area for that 'anything' to reside in. Well, my bedroom door is directly opposite the goddamn front door. I don't subscribe to this, but it is interesting. Also, side effects of the hauntings in my past include headaches and sleep paralysis (where you can't fully wake up, but you are aware that you are awake, and you are literally paralized and it takes effort beyond normal to snap into full consciousness. It can last for 10 minutes and is quite painful). These are now happening again, and my brother is included.

Does anyone have any useful insight and/or stories, suggestions or questions about this situation? As a skeptic-who-has-no-reason-to-be-skeptical, I'd appreciate feedback as it sometimes makes me feel like I'm going to lose my mind.

My bedroom acts pretty normal. It probably needs to tidy itself up, but it's pretty calm. ;)

Maybe you could take Brendan's advise and start asking it questions.

I mean I would ask it who are you? Why are you heare? Who is Harry??

Also, i am not sure what EVP is but maybe you could put that audio on your computer and check out the sound waves. It would be neat to see what the pattern looks like.

Depending on the subject one is wanting to believe in. Is it hard to be skeptical? I would say no, because rarely does a true skeptic do anything to prove something wrong than to scoff and laugh and believe other peoples conclusions rather than doing their own investigations.

Therefor, it's easier for you to choose not to be believing and accepting my account because you don't have to personally live with and accept the stuff happening around me.

And I can accept that.

...which is why I wasn't hesitant to state that they could be anything...reflection, dust particles, etc. These pictures, by the way, are the first I've ever taken on a digital camera. All I've ever taken pictures on are those disposable ones. And I have tons of film pictures containing these 'orbs'.
The best photos I have are from New Orleans when I went 2 years ago. All photos were not digital, and every picture has the coolest swirls and streaks and orbs. I always get extremely upset when this happens because all my pictures are dominated by this stuff. Now I'm finding it rather interesting. It's like having Indutrial Light & Magic process all my film!

My head is sceptical bought a greater part of me wishes it to be real, rather than fragments of imaginations and pixie loss, sorry, pixel loss. In these cases I'd rather people be proved right than proved wrong.

I've yet to see any concrete evidence paranormal activity/reincarnation/Jesus/blah blah blah are for real.

apl4eris...I fully understand the skeptisism. I'm still skeptical! As for the pics and videos, until I am satisfied with an explanation and have them validated by a professional (as far as validity can go in such a vastly uncertain field), I will not give any images out for posting. I hope you can understand my platform.
But I certainly will keep you updated.

Mosleyk...unfortunately I do not watch television. I don't even have television. I mean to say, I have a television, but the only thing I use it for is DVD. But thank you nevertheless for the scoop.

As freaky and exciting as it was last night (and scary), I'm kinda finding the fact that my brother is home alone today slightly amusing...who knows...maybe he's getting along with 'Harry'. I just hope they don't eat all my chips!

I'd be happy to host the pics and video in whatever format on my website, if you would like. Let me know what you think...

Great detective work Transmarine!!! I can't believe you were able to record the EVP. That is WAY better proof than the orbs, which most serious paranormal experts don't put too much weight on.

I am so glad you are going to seek a professional investigation next week. I look forward to reading your next update ;-)

Or...why don't you come on over and see for yourself!

I've just played this for my coworkers who have heard it as well. There's no denying it's a voice. Obviously I am finding clues because I am wanting to find clues. There's no doubt about that fact...but something has been urging me to look for clues, so therein lies the crux. I wouldn't normally waste mytime for two hours walking around a darkened area taking random shots unless I felt it pertinent. This apartment has been strange for a while now.
The EVP itself of the voice "Harry" is interesting because it sounds as if someone has leaned in close to the microphone and whispered it. Now, if that were the case, and a physical person leaned into it and whispered, all peripheral noise would receed and fade back. This has no interruption in background noise, no fluctuation in volume, no glitches...just "Harry". Twice.
And Pixiesteve, wouldn't you be interested in something that was once knocking your PIXIES memorabillia from your wall?
I'm not saying it is a ghost. As I stated in my first thread, I don't like those terms...they denote negativity and projection. I really don't think this thing in my apartment is something like that. But it is something becoming more tangible with the area my brother and I occupy. Maybe we're occupying a multi-area! Maybe we all are. And maybe I am causing this thing stress too. Have you ever uttered your name out loud for no reason you could put a finger on? Perhaps you've done it for no more reason than to hear it for yourself. Or maybe we're on someone else's electronic equipment from time to time.

dude, you were admitting yourself nothing physical had happened and that all you could say was you felt uneasy... probably because you've shat yourself up and convinced yourself you have a haunted bedroom. nice one *THUMBS UP*. it's your own mentalness that's freaking you out. wow, you heard a loud noise... you're acting like a 5 year old kid. now everything slightly irregular must be a ghost. stop looking for clues, they don't exist. you once considered streaks and orbs to be just a result of your bad photography, but since learning that paranormal researchers consider them spirits, THEY MUST BE SPIRITS!

and now you're hearing voices!

i suggest you go on holiday abroad for a few weeks. take your mind off ghosts.

TRANSMARINE Posted - 09/14/2005 : 07:23:04
Hi people. I took about 40 photos with a digital camera I 'borrowed' from work last night. My brother was home and asleep when I arrived from work, so I decided to snap away. I took pictures of every concievable area of my apartment...all closets, corners, ceiling...everything except my brothers room because he was asleep. I made sure to also take these pictures in the dark as to not have any other light source other than the flash...which was kinda scary because it was pitch black. Anyhow, out of all of these, two pictures of my hallway produced 'orbs', which are regarded by paranormal and psychic researchers to be 'spirits'. It could also be a number of things...reflection, dust particles...etc. But nevertheless it was amazing. One has one huge orb floating about dead center, and the other has an orb toward the ceiling and one directly below it near the carpet.
Anyhow...
Then I got brave and switched the camera to video mode. I slowly walked through the apartment filming in detailed pans. This went on for a few minutes. Then I stood leaning against the wall, about 3 feet from my hallway to watch it on playback, hoping to catch an orb or streak of light, or lord knows what. As I stood watching intently, all focus on the tiny screen, volume on full,

a voice whispered plain as day, clear as a bell, "Harry".

I almost shit my pants and played it again. Other than normal digital beeps and my feet shuffling (I was vocally completely silent), there was that slightly raspy, deep male voice, breathly stating "Harry". Was it to me? Was it to another entity? Was it there at all? I backed up the video and watched it again. "Harry", it sounded again. Simultaneously, what I thought was my brother standing in the hallway, actually was not. When I caught the figure in my peripheral, I snapped to see for a split instant, a fuzzy black figure which vanished immediatley. Again, I nearly soiled myself and instantly snapped 3 more pictures which ultimately produced nothing. In an excited and fascinated panic, I awoke my poor brother, and told him the story. We plugged the camera into his computer and sampled the video. Sure enough, not only does the voice called 'Harry' present itself on the computer, but it occurs TWICE, for 5 seconds later it whispers it again...this time, very carefully and long, as to get make sure we understand that it is indeed saying "Harry".

It took me hours to get to sleep. And all I dreamt was of this voice in my presence.

Nevertheless, this whole experience is producing wonderful stuff! I can genuinely say I once again (although this time with proof) occupy a space with an unknown force of nature! I will be contacting professional researchers later this week to come have a look. Anyway, tell me what you all think!

you guys have really cool stories.

well Transmarine, I thought I had a paranormal experience to post last week. It reminded me of the poster on the wall situation you had explained.

I had this Fugazi tape sitting on the TV. A small stereo and its speakers sit above the cabnet holding the tv and other stuff.

Well, three times in a row that Fugazi tape flew off the tv onto the floor.

Finally I realized it was the vibrations of the music shaking the tv slightly, forcing the tape off.

For a second I thought it was a cool story though. :)

Hey Transmarine,

I too have had encounters much the same that you are experiencing and all alongside my brother as well. My parents did not believe me about the phenoms that were being accounted but they soon did after I left the room and the house for a couple of months.
Anyways, I could go on and on with my stories as well but when it comes down to it I found that whenever shit started happening or happened I would ask the room what it wanted? What was it looking for? Did it lose something? Was it lonely for someone? Was it wronged in anyway? When I started asking these questions I started to have "nicer" things start happening. Examplses - pleasant smells as opposed to loud frightful noises, things unexplainably not breaking when I would drop something. These took me a long time to realize were probably being caused by the same force.
I had deliberate knockings on the wall of my bedroom that would start as soon as my father and cat would retire upstairs at the end of the night, a stack of Sports Illustrated magazines that were completly soaked the entire way throught without wetting or damagaing the bookshelf they were on and then dried completely the next morning (but still wrinkled from the wetness), Alarm clock going off in the middle of the night with the radio tuner changing (that one was freaky!), and my cat that would howl unexpectantly while in the room and actually charge at the door whether the door was open or not!
Anyways, after I began asking the questions outloud (which makes one feel a little fucked)these stopped.
I want to include something more. I moved houses a few years after these incidents. One night I was lying at the corner of my bed. I put a cd on the stereo (this way I knew how long I had been lying there) and closed my eyes to go to sleep. I awoke with the strangest sensation that someone was standing beside me. Upon opening my eyes I realized that I was must have dreaming. To my surprise, there was a mouse standing where I thought there should a person. I then heard something that sounded like an idling car engine. It was my kettle boiling! I had been lying peacefully in bed for nine songs on the cd. There was no way for me to forget about the kettle (it is a plug-in kind) and I tested and tested the kettle the following days to see if I had plugged it in hours previous and it had a security feature to shut itself off. No such luck. This is where your orbs and streaks of light come in. While I stood pondering what the hell just happened and went looking for the mouse I kept swatting what I thought was a small, fast-moving fruit fly away. It wasn't until the last swat that I realized it wasn't a fly at all but a small daylight glowing orb. I never did find the mouse nor understand how the kettle became plugged in and stared boiling. I have my hunches but that would take hours to explain.
Anyways, hope you have some peace of mind.
Later.

It's been a while, and I hate digging up the dead (), but my room is actually becoming a horror movie. Again, this is so fascinating to me, and yet I am becoming sleepless and finding it difficult to be alone in my own goddamn room.

Nothing physical has happened since the above mentioned 3 months ago. BUT, if anyone has ever seen photos with 'orbs' or 'streaks' that are supposedly spirits or entities (I have countless photos with this phenomenon, thinking always until recently that it was just bad development) they will know what I am talking about. I am actually seeing these things with my eyes! Of course, it's always in the peripheral vision area, unless I am having some serious vision problems. And these are not the normal streaks and dots one sees on occasion due to normal eye stuff. So either I'm hallucinating, having vision problems, or there are indeed 'things' in the spacial area of my room. Seeing these is followed by a feeling of horror...and I'm not sure if it's me freaking myself out, or a presence. My friends and brother also don't feel comfortable in the room. I am going to take some digital pics today finally. If anything shows up, I am going to seek out some ghost group to investigate. Anyway...any further thoughts, please post them.

Hi guys. Nothing jumped off the wall this weekend. But, I was standing at my sink brushing my teeth on Saturday and a loud noise from the floor sounded right behind me and the ground shook...as if someone jumped in place and stomped with great force. I believe you are referring to The Entity with Barbara Hershey. I'm fairly certain something is not following me (even though I am devoid of proof)...more or less maybe I just have bad luck with where I move to! The Entity was silly...if you all want to see a movie closest to the feeling a haunting or an occupation evokes, rent The Changeling. This is by far the best 'haunting' movie. I am open-minded when it comes to things like this, but usually like to investigate the pragmatic first. There are many ways to clear a house, if you put any stock in them. Saying that, it's been a long time since I actually went through the process - never had anything scare me enough to do it since the last time - I enjoy when inexplicable things occur, as long as they aren't harmful or menacing. I've known many reasonable, sceptical people that had very strange thing happen to them. Many of which I suppose could be classically termed as poltergeists.

I'm very curious what you encountered in your previous houses.

Hi apl4eris, and thanks everyone for the responses. First off, let me just say that nothing strange has been happening for the past few days, except that the apartment still feels "charged". The only way to describe this is to imagine what it must feel like to be 'beamed' in the transporter on Star Trek. There are areas in my room and the common areas that feel warm and cool and when you move through them (or they around you) it has that 'beamy' feel. But nothing jumping off the walls. Now, apl4eris, wonderful observation...yes, I too considered a static effect possibility, and it very well could have been. It was just strange that it happened long after it had been hanging, and only during that 12 hour period last week. There was absolutely no air flow either that could have affected it. Like I stated before, I have many laminated foam-core based pictures on this same wall. As for hanging something else in the same spot, well, I did try hanging a hat, thinking it may be more in tune to a symbol of a living person. Nothing. The hat just hung there. Sometimes I'll hang the original picture back when I'm feeling normal, and then I'll take it down when I feel odd. I know I shouldn't let it get to me, after all I'm the guy paying the rent, not some spectre keen on parlour tricks. But until this 'occupant' finds a more constructive way to communicate (or I with it) and I feel a bit more at ease, I will place and remove the picture at my discretion. I have not felt threatened by this event, and as bone-chilling as it can be, I hope it continues.

On a slightly more menacing note, a coworker of mine (Cathy) actually lives in my same apartment complex. The unit she currently lives in was rented by another former-coworker of mine (Marissa). Marissa invited me over often to kick it with her and her boyfriend. The following is something I had completely forgotten about until Cathy reminded me of yesterday. Marissa and her boyfriend Matt told me about how their TV would switch on in the middle of the night at full volume, and the remote control would be nowhere to be found until after they manually switched the set off. They would return to bed unnerved, only to have the same thing happen again moments later. Once they saw a black cloudy figure move through their hallway from the bathroom to their bedroom. When they told me this (over a year ago) I remember being spooked as it reminded me of my former 'hauntings' growing up. Well, now Cathy lives in the above mentioned unit. I briefly told her my story of my unit, and she reminded me of Marissa and shared a couple things which has been happening in her apartment. She too has had a picture fly off the wall twice, but as the mountings came off with it, it led us to conclude the wall is weak. And Cathy has had a lot of drywall rot problems due to moisture. So that's not too freaky. BUT...a month ago, Cathy and her boyfriend were watching tv at night in their living room with a candle on a nearby table acting as the only illumination other than the tv screen. Her boyfriend got up to go into the kitchen. He passed by the candle (which was housed in a small glass hurricane lamp) and as soon he moved by it, the glass around the candle exploded with force extreme enough to cause a big shard to cut his chest...through his t-shirt. Now, until that crap starts happening, I will settle with my resident.

I want to take a moment to apologize for the lenghts of my posts, but I'm trying to answer with as much clarity the questions you have all asked...all of which I am truly thankful for. You guys are great.

apl4eris, in 1978 my family moved into our third house. This would be our second house in Chino Hills, California...I was 7. We (my mother, father, younger sister, and younger brother) lived here from 1978 to 1991. During these 13 years, our entire neighborhood suffered from bad things. Most of the neighbors were very strange, violent, and unhappy people, most with families or reclusive. This fact alone seems to have been either a great receptor of negative 'charges', or perhaps we were all affected by the external 'charges'. Anyhow, the area of Chino Hills has since been discovered to have a very interesting history. Many Indians were killed here by prairie settlers who took the land which over the years became a worldwide well-known dairy city. In fact, on our cul-de-sac, historians have found old arrowheads. Now, what I'm about to tell you again I cannot say for sure are ghosts, but there was and probably still is a definate presence of disharmony and agitation disassociated from a tangible source. My sister would witness disembodied hands moving on her bedroom curtain at night. She would also sleep-walk constantly. She had the hardest time out of all of us I believe during these years. My parents were very unhappy with us and themselves, dishing out indescribably crushing emotional mood-swings. Our dogs would bark at walls. These same walls attracted our radio-controlled toys when they were switched off. My brother would hear our piano at night playing off-kilter tunes as if by untrained hands. I witnessed red cat-like eyes peering at me from my closet late at night. We all heard feet shuffling at night, and my sister heard choruses of mumbling following these foot parades. Twice we had an invasion of bees in our garage, always it would be me to discover them after school and call the city to send out a bee wrangler. Sounds of people shutting doors, but then no door would be shut...and no person would be there. Once a shadow offered me my blankets in the middle of the night as I awoke shivering...in a gravely voice, it thrusted them at me and said "here!". I thought it was my father, but he claimed the next morning he never set foot in my room. The sides of our house (outside) had such strange atmospheres none of us liked to really ever play or work around. So much stuff like this...and it wasn't unique to just our house as I said. The family next door were a strange lot, and their youngest daughter who suffered from sleeping disorders would tell me slightly panicked that she couldn't sleep because of the 'purple phantoms'. She was 5, poor thing. Not to mention her older sister (my age) who had such disturbing emotional problems and would beat her sister and constantly attack me. Our neibors directly across from us was one built out of fractured families. The parents were nice, as was their youngest girl. But the older sisters and brother were monsters. The mother would often fly in horror to our house and talk to my mom about strange things happening in their house when she was alone. Two houses down was a woman named Helen(rest her soul, she was an angel) in her fifties who cared for her invalid live-in mother. One day she was bathing her mother when her mother panicked in the bath tub. Helen turned to see, standing at the threshold of the bathroom, two children dressed in prairie attire, demanding to know what happened to their 'ma' and 'pa' before vanishing. The strangest part about this whole 13 years that I want to stress in an attempt to rectify why some of you may be wondering why no one did anything about this is as follows. My family did not discuss it. In fact, we were all under a strange impression that it was 'normal', and we all suffered from a confusion over it that was not to be dealt with, as if a spell of denial came with the negative territory. It wasn't until we moved in 1991 that we really ever talked about it. Since, we have bandied stories left and right, chilling each other with amusement and sometimes, regret and sorrow. It was a very unhappy time.

I lived for 5 years in Huntington Beach, California from 1996 to 2001 with a bunch of friends. I was 24-30 years of age during this time. Our house had within it 'occupants'. These would show in forms of black clouds in our entrance hall, stomp through our upstairs, call out names, turn on stereos and televisions (always at full volume, as if quiet volumes wouldn't be scary enough!), fling open doors and closets, knock things over, cause loud thumps as if bookshelves had collapsed...but nothing would be out of order, slip up behind you as if someone where sneaking up from behind to clasp their arms around you, etc. I became accustomed to talking out loud whenever I was coming home, because I didn't want to see it. Sometimes I wondered if these things were just as nervous about witnessing me as I was of witnessing them. Our house would just become 'charged' and 'angry'. At these times, I just left and took a walk for a while until I felt safe to return.

Once I moved from this house, it all stopped. That was 4 years ago And now it's happening again. So I hope these are answers that may quench you. It's all very interesting, and I assure it's all true. Again, I can't get myself to say 'ghosts'. But it's something. Thank you all again. Hope you enjoy this stuff!

Interesting story Brian! Have you tried hanging anything else in that spot? I ask because I wonder if it's the foam w/laminate that might be causing the strange behavior (static or air current).
