Or, perhaps, "WHERE'S the beef?"

No, wait. That's Wendy's.

Hehe, I thought someone would make something of the word beef.

Don't believe the type!

Agreed, CoF. Sandwiches need real meat, not loaves of salt and nitrates congealed by fat.

Which reminds me where I'll be going for lunch today.

Why not? I am intrigued, what's your beef?

Ugh, don't get me started on Subway...

I never slice sandwiches.

On a related topic, it bugs me that Subway stopped using the wedge cut for their rolls.

I was just talking slices of bread sandwiches - if we're talking subs, then that depends entirely on the filling.
Broken Face Posted - 06/15/2005 : 14:29:55
regular sandwich - diagonal

larger sub/hero/grinder/hoagie (whatever you call it in your region) - straight

when i was a wee lad i used to request my mother cut my sandwiches in 5ths. i was fucking awesome even then

Peanut butter and honey? You won't be getting that if you return to our country pal.

By the way, are you coming back?

As always, BLT speaks the truth (as one might guess from his nom de plume). For sandwiches, I side with Katherine on the diagonal cut. I like the crust-to-middle ratio better. There is one exception, however. If I make a peanut butter and honey sandwich, it must not be cut but folded upon itself and only using one piece of bread.

C'est la loi de Dean. :)

Open sandwich sliced into fingers, closed sliced into quarters on the diagonal.
danjersey Posted - 06/14/2005 : 21:02:09
diagonal, it fits better, with a straight cut you can rough up the corners of your mouth if the bread is toasted, and i like to toast. since i've been eating wraps lately it has'nt come up.
(chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomatoe, hot peppers and blue cheese)
ummm......bacon.
floop Posted - 06/14/2005 : 18:57:27
depends on my mood.
IceCream Posted - 06/14/2005 : 18:51:06
I've never cut a circular sandwich bun; have you, floop? If so, diagonal or straight?
floop Posted - 06/14/2005 : 18:44:43
do you cut your circular sandwich buns diagonally or straight?

Kathryn, do you prefer vinyl to CD? I surmised the possibility from your claim that bigger is better.

BLT, genius. I would have never thought of that.

Tobafett, highly observant.

LBF, I highly praise your refusal to conform to a standard. Your artistry will always be appreciated by me.

Floop, this is your second best topic ever.

i guess straight.... but if i was making it for someone else... diagnal since i think it looks nicer :)
Little Black Francis Posted - 06/14/2005 : 15:46:42
Neither, somewhere in between. Closer to straight but at an angle, around 25 degrees probably, defintely not corner to corner, defintely not straight across. I am an artist.

i would think BLT's opinion might weigh a little heavier on this topic...
BLT Posted - 06/14/2005 : 14:43:23
Never cut a sub diagonally.
Carl Posted - 06/14/2005 : 14:24:27
Diagonal, although I always cut them straight. So maybe I'm nuts.
Surfer Rosa Posted - 06/14/2005 : 14:19:11
Is this an open or closed sandwich?

Diagonal, because it's cooler this way.
