So as not to make this a completely selfish thread: it's coming up to holiday season. Why don't you post where you're going on holiday, and maybe someone from our thriving little international community here will be able to offer some tips about how to get the best out of your time.

Me first then: I'm going to Nice on Monday, hopefully we'll get to travel around the Côte and Provence a little as well.

I'm always happy to go down to old Tucson.

Actually, I've never been there. I just wanted to feel like a big man by quoting Frank. I'll leave now.

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.

Apparantly our mini tour of Italy is also taking in Florence now, which I am very happy about.

Don't talk to me about hip, monkey.

So are these strippers you've hired or your gfs?

That may well be hip over there, not here.

Taking girls with you.

It's an expression. You know, if you're trying to be hip.

Yeah it's only fifteens minutes drive away. To be honest, that's not really our scene. We'll be taking our own entertainment.

Exactly!

Anyway, the weather should be fun and lots of party stuff to do, especially on that side of the island. Great food, too. Ayia Napa's not far from there and that's another party spot.

Stay away from my sister. She's INSANE. That's my biggest advice about Cyprus.

It's certainly pretty. Though I have a bad childhood memory of Protaras - food poisoning, bad halloumi, age 9, lots of vomiting. If you need any holiday advice regarding Cyprus let me know. I grew up close to Protaras.

No idea. I book tomorrow. Two of my mates are thinking of moving there next year so they are going to check it out. I just said this weekend that I would go with them. I don't know much about the place really, though I do now know that they have a fantastic water part. Looking forward to that.

That's so weird. I spent a lot of time there growing up. You're flying in to Larnaca, I assume?

I'm going to Rome and Milan on 18th July and Cyprus in August. It'a been 3 years since I last had a holiday after previously going abroad every year of my life. It will be nice to get away. Looking forward to the ice cream in Roime already. And the beautiful women of course.

I don't remember seeing it there in January this year. Sorry Frog. I'll double check with my buddy later.

Sorry - just double checked with her and my map - no bakery, unless it's moved. Can you remember the name of it at all?
Frog in the Sand Posted - 06/13/2005 : 01:40:15
In the early 90s there was an excellent French bakery near the St. Francis Cathedral - I don't remember where exactly, probably here or in the immediate neighborhood:

But I do remember its owner was born in Marseille, in Southern France. He'd been living in SF for 20 years or so and spoke English with a strange, inimitable accent. For some reason he had stopped all contact with his family - his parents didn't even know he had moved to the US. Although people from Marseille tend to regard the other French as foreigners, the guy welcomed me warmly and even offered me a café noir and a croissant pur beurre :) I remember him very well cos he's the only French I've ever met in New Mexico.

Kath, I'd be curious to know if this bakery still exists?...

I've never lived there but have spent lots of time there since '87. My in-laws live there.

Well, faith and optimism are vital virtues when you want to become a screenwriter, as I do. I'm sure you see what I mean :)
