new vs. old school.
I'm watching ATHF on adult swim...it's funny but i don't find it as addictive as futurama and family guy. i've completely lost interest in the simpsons.
but i think i'm going to order Boomerang so's i can watch the old-school toons I liked years ago: Thundarr, Speed Racer (that new car insurance commercial by that company that shall rename nameless makes me mad--i keep thinking SR is back on), REAL looney tunes, etc...
i hate to come across as crotchety but i miss GI Joe and the transformers (and to a much lesser degree GoBots). Where is my Scooby Doo? Where is Voltron?

clone high was so good. i also want a second season of undergrads.

I used to love the Nintendo-related cartoons (The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Captain N).
The Simpsons is still my favorite show, and I like Futurama and Family Guy a lot.

right on, mosleyk...adult swim is exactly that. kids our age who liked cartoons and who've finally come into power! :)
i've also noticed alot of late 80s/early 90s music and cultural refs in ad campaigns/films/tv...stuff we listened to in college/hi-school/ etc...kids our age (i'm guessing from your post) are finally above rung 0 in the corporate media chains and have some sway on music, references, etc... |

Do you think the whole Adult Swim thing comes from the fact alot of us 30yrs plus were raised with the Saturday morning classics and well....never out grew them?
Also, do you think the kids of today are really even that interested in cartoons with all the playstations, X-boxes and other animated games they can occupy themselves with? |

IMO they're still pretty good. I saw a few Ant/Aardvark cartoons last year-- first time I've seen them since the '70s (NBC Saturday mornings!). The voices by John Byner were great-- Aardvark's Jewish thing still cracks me up. Plus I can't get enough of that senseless violence. |

This thread takes me back. I used to love transformers, Voltron, Johnny Quest, Thundercats, yes and Scooby Doo.
I wish kids today had the joy of the Saturday morning cartoons, and the Sunday Specials before the start of the new season with such hosts as Kiss! Anyone remember that? |

Aside from the adult cartoons, nothing new interests me. I much prefer cartoons from the 80's or earlier. Pretty much anything from then interests me, admittedly largely for nostalgia reasons.
I guess floop WAS right!

tom slick! loved that one. i can't find the theme song to download, last time I checked but i remember all the words...
and I was referring to any cartoon older than 15 or 20 years old as the old-school examples...shoulda clarified, sry. |

I loved Speed Racer as a kid but seeing it as an adult realized it's horrible. There's nothing redeeming about it. I never liked Scooby Doo.
Gimme Warner Bros and Popeye (the Fleischer stuff, not the stupid AAP crap). Also the Jay Ward toons are still funny, particularly Superchicken, George of the Jungle and Tom Slick. As for more modern stuff, I'll always be into John Kricfalusi.

GI Joe isn't old school. Bugs Bunny is old school. He was the best and will always be the best.
