My girlfriend's family made it.

Well, this thread is coming full circle. Friday night I went to sleep fairly early, then Saturday I went to hang out with my friend and her boyfriend. It was awful. They get into these horrendous fights that last for days. They truced (temporarily) and we went to the movies. I woke up Sunday and they were STILL fighting, so I left. That night, they came over to my apartment. We all got really drunk and played poker...then I got into a fight with my brother, which didn't make any sense (alcohol induced)...I was responsible for this weird fight. Then Monday (Memorial Day) I cooked and rented movies and recovered. I can't believe I am nearing 34 years of age, and nothing has changed from when I was 18. Maybe I should grow a mustache.

No empty hyperbole: Simon's piece was some of the best
rock writing I've ever read.

Yeah, it's weird how the Indy 500 has become so irrelevant. But, this year with Patrick sparked some interest. I thought it was alright. The tension of whether she had a enough fuel was fun, but I thought they could have covered what was going with the other leading cars as well. And, ending under a caution flag was disappointing.

My sports highlight of the weekend was the Sox pounding the Yankees 17-1.
OldManInaCoffeeCan Posted - 05/30/2005 : 19:54:10

I spent a long Memorial Day Weekend on Kentucky Lake (Tennessee River) at Beaver Dam, Tennessee where my cup was overflowing with sun, family and friends, boats, water skiing, bloody-mary mornings, hog-leg buzzes, bikinis, afternoon naps, camp fire charades, double feature (Longest Yard & Monster in law) at the drive-in theater, and a sunrise boat ride to Heron Island to watch the fog come off the river and the Great Blue Herons leave their nests to fish.

We didn’t make the Memorial Day Parade at the county square, but we did express our gratitude for the people, including family and friends, that have served in the armed forces in the past and present (Grandfather in WWII, father in Germany during Cold War 1955-1957, my nephew who joined the Army's Striker Unit 18 months ago and will soon be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan, or so we assume, and all those other families that are sending daughters, sons, wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, and grandfathers to serve their country.

I didn't end up doing much today. After getting up, I took a shower, spent some time on the Internet, ate dinner, played frisbee with my girlfriend, slept some more, and spent more time on the Internet. Which brings us right up to the present moment.

Heh, well its hardly enough to live on! Actually, I just sent it off, but thanks for the offer. I posted a link the other day to a FB live review I did ages ago, if you're interested. I can't remember where it is now...

I'd be thrilled to help you keep it to 200, Simon. I did that
for a living for years and years. How great that you are
getting paid to review music!

It's just the Spring Bank Holiday, no real rhyme or reason to it. I don't think we have any specific holidays like that except Christmas/New Year/Easter.
The review should be in Record Collector, which I guess is only available in the UK. If its published, I'll post a copy if you like. I'm trying to do it now, but I'm finding the 200-word limit very frustrating, as usual. I write for a website as well where I can mouth off all I like, but RC is a properly established magazine, plus they pay me so I prefer to write for them :)

Thanks for the recipe, Brian.

Simon, what holiday is it over there? Where will your Honeycomb review
appear?

I went to our town's parade and it was cute but then the WW II vets got
all weepy and I got weepy because war is hell.

So you have the holiday today too? Ace. I had various plans for cleaning the house and all sorts of productive things. Here's how it went:
Get up at 10
Watch X-Men 2
Eat lunch while watching some 'Black Books'
Have bath
Iron some shirts (as productive as it got)
Read for a bit
Come on here

My plans next involve writing my Honeycomb review and cooking salmon for dinner.
I'm exhausted.

Kathryn, i am not in Vermont, i am still in New Jersey. I had a 3 day BeerBQ where i was the DJ (the new Stephen Malkmus and Cracker's 'Countrysides' went over the best), the bartender (my patented Hulk's Pants* once again razzled and dazzled) and the chef (my homemade chicken marinade and kabobs went over huge). And i just finished cleaning! today the party moves to my friend's house with a pool.

* Hulk's Pants:

1 shot of Sky Vodka
2 shots of Blue Pucker
4 shots of Mountain Dew: Code Red

it comes out purple - just like the Incredible Hulk's pants

Surf in the morning (although it's small), BBQ at the neighbors in the afternoon, then going on a date in the evening.

We are kinda big on memorial day in my family. At our plant nursery we make special memorial day planters people can take to grave sites.

Tomorrow we are going to the cemetary where most of my family on my mom's side is buried. This includes my grandfather who died just two years ago at the age of 96 (grandma is still alive and almost 96). I was incredibly close to my grandfather. Infact, I am now living on the farm where he was born, which makes me feel like I am always near him.

We usually turn the trip to the cemetary into a bit of a yearly family reunion afterwards we have a big picnic and sometimes play softball (I still remember the year grandpa at the age of 90 caught a fly ball from center field....it was a sight to behold).

all in all it will be a nice day .

indy cars don't usually burst into flames, though. they just kind of fall apart and spin around. stock car racing is the place to be for huge flaming mushroom clouds and other miscellaneous carnage.

danika did annoy the hell out of me on dave the other night, but if he's excited i'm excited.
darwin Posted - 05/27/2005 : 21:06:00
I just hope she doesn't end up in a ball of fire. It would be cool if she won, but she did seem kind of annoying on Letterman.

You remember when the 500 wasn't shown live on TV you had to either listen to it on the radio or watch it taped delay in the evening?
dayanara Posted - 05/27/2005 : 18:14:00
working. i'm a whore for holiday pay.

i'm taping the 500 too, but not so i can drool over danika like some people i know...

Playing a show at a dive of a bar tomorrow night. Then just a lot of drinking and hopefully celebrating one of my close friends getting married today.
