But why are there so many songs about rainbows? And what's on the other side?

I like that there's always a pot of gold at the end!

rita... here's a hug.

I think it's cool for anyone to like rainbows :) Rainbows remind me of the '80s when they were popular. It's great that the gay community uses it as a symbol. It's also a religious symbol.

It's the coolest weather related phenom and I always feel happy when i see a real rainbow.
VoVat Posted - 05/25/2005 : 17:51:26
I think it's okay for non-gay women to like rainbows.

Well, it's a community thing. I guess the bookshop is actually an excuse, to a certain extent - it's a place where really camp guys can hang out and girls can sit on each other's lap without getting weird looks.

My wife actually didn't know what the rainbow stood for until we walked out of the shop and I told her. She hasn't had the opportunity to use the umbrella though - if she does and girls hit on her, I'll be sure to let you know.

[Edit: keep confusing "library" and "bookshop". Bloody gallicisms.]

thanks for telling me this, i have a rainbow coloured umbrella too , tho' i got it during the anti-war protests a couple of years ago and not in a gay bookshop. now i must get rid of it or people will think i'm gay.

btw i don't get the reason of a gay only bookshop. for sure sexual orientation has little to do with liking the silence of the lambs or boys don't cry or whatever book or film for that matter and all videoclubs have a gay session anyway. mah.

It's a bookshop where they only sell gay interest stuff (in the historical area of Lille, which is now claimed to be "le petit Marais"). Books mainly, but also postcards, videos (from stuff like Silence of the Lambs or Boys Don't cry, to... more obviously gay themed stuff), and shit like rainbow coloured umbrellas (my wife bought one!), lapel pins, keyrings, whatever.

It was a bit weird - I mean, it was the first time I entered a bookshop to be greeted by the sight of male genitals (on a postcard that was on a rack near the door, right at eye level).

I'll tell you where it is, should you ever visit Lille. You'd have a ball. Maybe even two. Ha.

thanks a lot. don't be offended if i ask you to send it to a PO box. i don't want a horde of drunk french gay men under my window in the case my adress goes pubblic.

PS: what exactly is a gay bookshop?

I was in a gay bookshop the other day, and they were selling these T-shirts that read something like, "L'homophobie se soigne ą l'homopathie" (Homophobia can be cured with homopathy). I almost bought one. What's your size, Mun Chien?
