Posted - 05/13/2005 : 12:08:11 For anyone who LOVES Frank's first 2 solo albums: (i should have done this years ago but i'm not very forum-y)
'Wisenheimer' by Custard.
i always wonder when listening to this album if any frank fans in the u.s. have heard it or even heard of them.they're a good australian band from the 90's (split up now so i'm not here promoting them or anything). they supported frank here on his '94 tour, where they met eric drew who produced this album with them in the u.s. frank's equipment was also used on this album. they have other good releases but this is a classic album and very early frank-ish. so if you've got a hankering for anything like frank's early riffy/quirky/eargasm pop, get it.
if anyone's got a problem with this being in wrong section, i apologise, i looked in appropriate section and noticed no one had posted there for ten days or so and i think people here would REALLY like this album.
if i hadn't of 'lived' with this album (got it when it was released, loved it for ten years almost), and just got to hear it now, i'd think i found some buried treasure!
trust me guys, not many posts but i'm a huge frank fan from way back.
PM me if use soulseek, i'll give you my username and i can share it with you.

There's always the songs that rrrich posted, though I'm not familiar with the m4a format myself. [EDIT: m4a = mp4, apparently.]

Posted - 05/15/2005 : 14:03:06 Funny, I was reading this Eric Feldman site a week or so ago on which the author mentions Custard. I probably would've forgot all about them if it hadn't been for this topic. |

Posted - 05/15/2005 : 10:02:32 custard are absolutely superb and it's good to see them get some acclaim as they quietly sneeked into obscurity outside of australia. i caught them in sydney in august 99 and fell in love. such a shame they split, formed lame bands subsequently (tho david mccormack's cover of whitetown's your woman is an exception).
ive got their albums, tho not on soulseek. so if anyone wants them ysi im sure i could get round to it this week. in the meantime:
apartment (from wisenheimer): http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=33CDINY8U9KKN0CQWMR4RU175C caboolture speed lab (from greatest hits): http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=10W0O8GYYLZP92RAY4MEFDZCZ4 ringo (i feel like) (from loverama): http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=13GK424LXU7432IOCWT3Z5DQFK
the last one doesnt have much of a frank black feel to it. more pavement gone funky.

didn't want to have to be a wanker but, just so you know... i've bought every frank black album the day they were released/were physically in store. i LOVE frank. i met him (yep got an autograph) together with eric drew when he toured here in '94. i own ALL catholics releases even though i think some are VERY patchy. the first 2 frank solo albums have alot more in common with pixies releases than catholics. all i wanted to do was alert people that wouldn't have heard this custard album to the fact that it is GREAT and also has alot in common with frank's earlier stuff. i would've thought EVERY person on this forum who really love TOTY & FB would love to hear another album/band of the same ilk. i'm not intending to make people stop listening to frank obviously, just giving you something extra to love like i do. i will still buy every album frank makes- he's my favourite. don't forget... frank asked them to support his '94 tour here, eric drew then took them to u.s to record THIS album with FRANK'S equipment. seriously guys give it a listen. you WON"T be disappointed. what harm can it do to check it out?
from a HUGE frank fan (hardly posting on this forum doesn't mean i'm not[member since 2003] ) |

Why the need to get all defensive? Nobody said anything bad about you or the band. We don't knock your music so don't knock ours. |

You're not really going to convince people describing the Catholics like that either. Little marketing tip there.
