Posted - 05/16/2005 : 12:28:30 I got my tattoo as a present for passing my GCSE's before I started college so I'd have been around 16, thats 8 years ago now and I still like it. I opted for the star because of the radiohead reference (a band tattoo without being obviously a band tattoo) and because I liked the sketchy look of it. Don't regret it a bit and I've been thinking about the next one ever since the first one, so I take it pretty seriously.
Hopefully this summer number two will be done.

Pisces symbol is two parallel swoopy lines with a bar through them.

One question I've been wanting to ask everyone who does have one is what made them get one in the first place. Was it just a general desire for one or was it to mark a point in your life? Was it simply a graphic statement? Do you want more?
And - what made you decide on what to get?
i got mine in '89, not everyone had one then, i was the only 16 year-old i knew that had one. i have to admit billy idol had something to do with it. i wanted it for years, like since i was 13/14. i picked something that i felt couldn't be dated....i got a dragon, mix chinese/japanese on my upper right arm and spent more money designing it with the artist than actually getting it done. the colours are still awesome and "i plan to sleeve it".
my second tattoo i got done with a friend on a whim and i regret it. it is a borneo arm band (think red hot chili peppers circa '92) and i fully plan on covering it up.
i have plans for a 3/4 back piece and half-sleeves. the back-piece is going to be japanese style but instead of a samurai fighting a dragon it will be a scotsman (wearing the family tartan) riding nessie in to battle-like, in one hand he will be holding a shield with the family crest (which is pretty cool, chevron, two wolves heads and knight helmet)the other a staff with a flag with the family motto "spero meliora". and then shoulders and arms will have other 'mythical beings'...giant squid, sasquatch, and maybe seahorses and sperm whales (at sleep vertically). the wind will be swirly and have maple leaves in it instead of cherry blossoms.
i have this great drawing of a whale my daughter did as a six year-old that i want to put on one of my calves. |

Posted - 05/12/2005 : 11:28:01 sorry....I talked about it on my earlier post, but should of restated.
It is on my right, freckled shoulder (and can be covered with a bra strap if needed). I designed the tattoo along with the tattoo artist "Fish" The rings represent movement and dance and also are chakra in order. The third ring is the belly button where it is thought women hold their emotions. I had my birthstone placed in it. blah blah....other meaning for me...blah blah... |

Thank you Kathryn - I almost didn't post that pic because I thought my nails looked dirty!
Homer I'm dissappointed your pics came down - they weren't show offy at all and now you're making me think I need to take mine down.
Sir Rock - in answer to your question I love mine to bits but chose to have it somewhere I couldn't see it without looking in the mirror or doing a fair bit of contorting to see it, so that I wouldn't get bored of it easily. I spent over 10 years deciding on what to get and whether I actually wanted one. I have friends with beautiful tattoos and friends with awful tattoos. It's with you for life, so you might as well be 100% sure that what you are getting is what you want and so there's not really any rush to get it either seeing as it will be around for as long as you are. |

No, I don't see a tattoo in my near future (or just plain 'ol future, for that matter). I think what really turned me off was seeing a friend of mine get drunk and get a 12" tall Sid Vicious tattoo on their hip/ass. That was about as tasteless as they came. Turned me off of the idea.
Some brains just work that way, that's what chemicals can do.
yeah, but you gotta admit, getting drunk and getting a 12" sid tattoed on your nether regions is pretty fuckin' punk! |

Posted - 05/11/2005 : 18:55:53 I vote you somehow compell your friend to pose his/her hip/butt so you can take a photo of said 12'' Sid tattoo and post it here.

Posted - 05/11/2005 : 18:43:55 I'll email you. I feel bad enough detracting this thread as much as I already have.
Back to the topic of tattoos, I had a question to tattoo owners. Do you grow tired of your tattoo, or regret your decision to get one? I've always seen thats as a big detractor to getting one, the whole attitude of "Well, what if I don't like it five years down the road?".
