...everything is new...

"Clowns in pornography are rebelling in attempts to escape their sad, sad, sad existences. Since 1990, clowns have killed at least 46 people and injured many more. In 1994, a clown killed her co-star and injured 12 spectators before being gunned down by almost 100 cream pies while running terrified through downtown Honolulu. Although thousands were amused as the scantily-clad clown cavorted through the streets, the tragedy of this incident cannot be denied."

The very premise of this thread is moot. Why?
Three words, people:

Crusty The Clown.

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Catholics

my sister never gets clowns. they always get those big bouncy things you go in, which rules
VoVat Posted - 05/09/2005 : 17:40:53
It's a vicious cycle.

Maybe the clowning industry has some of mind control going on. I wouldn't be too surprised.

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.

Good point, very good point. I always wonder if perhaps clowns all have some sort of fucked up mental issues holding on to their childhood etc. i dont know.

7. I will appear in as many clown shows as I possibly can.

What's up with that? Smells like a plan to spread the gospel of clown around the world.

sure you are not repressing a hidden phobia there Tre?

anyway, just found the clown commandments again. quite amusing.

quote:
1. I will keep my acts, performance and behavior in good taste while I am in costume and make up. I will remember, at all times that I have been accepted as a member of the clown club only to provide others, principally children, with clean clown comedy entertainment. I will remember that a good clown entertains others by making fun of him or herself and not at the expense or embarrassment of others.
2. I will learn to apply my make up in a professional manner. I will provide my own costume. I will carry out my appearance and assignment for the entertainment of others and not for personal gain or personal publicity when performing for either the International club or alley events. I will always try to remain anonymous while in make up and costume as a clown, though there may be circumstances when it is not reasonably possible to do so.
3. I will not drink any alcoholic beverages prior to any clown appearances. I will abstain from drinking alcoholic beverage while in make up and costume. I will conduct myself as a gentleman/lady, neither molesting nor interfering with other acts, events, spectators, or individuals.
4. I will remove make up and change into street clothes as soon as possible following my appearance, so that I cannot be associated with any incident, which may be detrimental to the good name of clowning. I will conduct myself as a gentleman/lady at all times.
5. While appearing, in make up and costume, I will carry out the directives of the Producer or his designated deputies. I will abide by all performance rules without complaint in public.
6. I will do my very best to maintain the best clown standards of make up, costuming, properties, and comedy.
7. I will appear in as many clown shows as I possibly can.

No, I dont think they are funny, but I think they are depressing. Im far from scared of them ( I just spent most of my time since septemeber to march researching and filming my poor friend dressed as a clown).

I got some audience feedback after screening my project, and it was interesting. The piece was split in to three sections - showing a clown in different genres. People that associated nice happy circus type clowns were really disturbed by the horror section - those that were afraid of clowns were made to feel uneasy by the melodrama piece (clwon being depressed, drinking, smoking...difficult to explain) .

It was funny watching the reactions.
I found most peopel who have Copulrophobia associate - very strongly - clowns to the film IT - an interesting comment on how the media is integrated in to our life.

Can I ask - those of you who think you are afraid of clowns where you think this fear stems from?

I find the costumes and face paints really....sad. Clown costumes tend to exaggerate the facial features and some body parts, such as hands and feet. so this can be read as monstrous or deformed as easily as it can be read as comical. But theres just something really really depressing, and sad and dark about clowns.

I think I probably HAVE coulrophobia! Clowns ar'nt funny, and they're dead creepy(except for Krusty, but expecially Ronald!!) Yeah, the clown smiley, good spot GypsyDeath. I'm gonna change my name to ClownDeath!!
GypsyDeath Posted - 05/07/2005 : 08:00:27
I just made a film and did a huge research project on clowns - and the different ways they are percieved by people.

Very interesting, - Coulrophobia (phobia of clowns). Theres a whole site dedicated to it - which is fascinating www.ihateclowns.com. Theres a forum on there and stuff.

Theres also clown porn...which is odd, to say the least, but funnier than that, there is an anti clown porn website www.stopclownpornnow.com. Apprently it exploits clowns. the clown commandments are what i found quite interesting - i didnt even think they would have things like that.

You should look at some of Bruce Naumans work, such as Clown Torture. Its brilliant stuff.

I cant believe no on has used this smiley yet -

This is interesting. I don't have a problem with clowns, and never thought of them as evil, but I have heard lots of people say they are. Do you think it all got started with John Wayne Gacy killings?
