Posted - 05/02/2005 : 18:04:49 I saw the Shins two nights in a row in Asheville, NC.
It was freakin' great.
The Brunettes opened. They were really good. Fun, very adorable pop music from New Zealand.
That's it. I haven't posted a topic in a while.

I honestly wasn't that upset. I saw their taped performace at the Austin Cit Limits, and they didn't look that impressive live. I figured, if they coudln't impress me when I knew they would be putting on their best show (best show due to the fact that they knew it was being recorded for a national viewing audience) how could they impress me when they weren't?

Posted - 05/03/2005 : 11:01:47 i am already sort of in a band - playing together for fun for over a year. but not really a band in teh sense that we write songs (though we've had a go). lately decided we might aswell come up with a name.
anyway, the shins... never heard of em.

Posted - 05/03/2005 : 08:58:35 What the Shins name lacks, they make up for with the quality of their music. You eventually forget how simple and almost lame the name of the band is. I dunno, I think it works for them. Maybe because I'm used to it by now.

Posted - 05/03/2005 : 08:25:13 I haven't heard them, but The Shins is a pretty lousy name IMO. Not as crappy as The National but still.

Posted - 05/03/2005 : 07:16:20 The Shins are one of my favorite current bands. I missed them in Paris, but I will certainly not miss their next show in France.

Posted - 05/03/2005 : 07:02:35 Caught the Shins live at the Black Cat in DC a couple years ago...great show, great band. Lots of energy...you can tell they're having fun.
Also saw James Mercer perform a solo acoustic show he co-headed with Sam Beam (Iron and Wine) at IOTA in Arlington. That performance was amazing, coolest thing was there was probably only about 25 of us in the bar for James' portion of the show! |

Posted - 05/02/2005 : 18:23:40 Huh, well... you probably missed 3 really good shows. That Austin city Limits show is about 2 years old anyhow, so who knows how much they've improved their live show.
They were energetic, tight, and James Mercer's vocals were amazing. Both shows I saw were of equal goodness.
Plus the female singer of the Brunettes is a babe.
