Since there's already a thread about the loudest one, I thought I would provide some balance.

I'm sure the actual quietest concert I've been to was one in a small room. The shows I've seen at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia were all pretty quiet. I do have to give some credit to Ben Folds as well, for playing a larger venue without giving me any ear damage.

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.

When the Magnetic Fields opened for They Might Be Giants in 1996...they were the quietest band I've ever seen. I hated them, everyone hated them, horribly droning and boring, no energy.

Years later Magnetic Fields are one of my favorite bands and I often wonder how bad they really were at that show...did I just not know the songs or was it really a bad show?

Surprisingly enough, the quitest concert I've ever been to (not in terms of audience noise, but volume of the band) was David Bowie last year. It was about as quiet as it would have been had I been playing a CD.

HIPPIES HATE WATER
(Lyrics:D. Nastasi / Music:D.Nastasi)

I 'm just a man, but Dan's got a future with a fast picking hand,
but my brother, my brother like my mother,
they're livin' back in the dead head fad.
Well don't be sad, they may be ugly but they aint that bad.
their only faulter is that they hate water,
and water is something that you gotta have.

Hipies Hate Water, Hippies Hate Water,
Hippies - Hippies - Hippies - Hate Water.

One day I found myself driving myself around.
Then I saw'em like a herd of sheep calling,
"Gimme a ride to the Dead show man"
Well don't be sad, they may be smelly but they aint that bad.
their only faulter is that they hate water,
and water is something that you gotta have.

Hippies Hate Water, Hippies Hate Water,
Hippies - Hippies - Hippies - Hate Water.

Kimya Dawson (of the Moldy Peaches) in some guys living room in Montclair, NJ. Such a fun intimate show.

The cancelled Frank Black & the Catholics show at the Velvet Jones. I was there and it was very quiet.

Oh! He played for about 100 people in a lost village. He wasn't definitely too loud, but it was great anyway.

Yo La Tengo in a festival Dublin in 2000, only ten people went and it was great.

A Beck solo acoustic show - intimate, beautiful and funny

Caetano Veloso, I saw him while I was in Brazil, quiet and beautiful.

Mission of Burma was pretty damned quiet but that's because of Roger Miller's tinnitus.

Yup, tis. Its also a very very good Liverpudlian band, sort of like a cross between Neil Young's acoustic stuff and Low, maybe. Very quiet (almost inausible at times), but some excellent harmonies, very beautiful.

Ella Guru?

Thats a Beefheart tune!

wipe it on your dress and send it to me.

I knew somebody would start this thread. Simply because if no-one else, I would've.

I guess for me, Ella Guru at the Scala last year. Very hushed and pretty.

i saw the guy from Red House Painters do a solo acoustic set once in San Francisco. that was a quiiiiieet concert.

i sure felt out of place being the only drunken heckler.

sometimes the life of a drunken heckler is a lonely one

the bluegrass set thet Phish played to a full 20,000 seat arena through what appeared to be one [1] Audio Technical 4033 mic.

The hippies were very good about "shhhhhhhhhhh!!!!"

It was great.
They did a full bluegrass cover of Boston's "Foreplay/Long Time" (yes, the whole thing!) ...tight - four part vocal harmony and everything.

Of course, I was all cranked on some mushrooms, but hey...i know good harmony -even high!
