To name the obvious, some 80's matchbox, Concretes, Stellastarr*, BSP, Go! Team etc etc, so many......bands I kinda knew of and some I didn't, after reading your posts was inspired to get off this butt and actually go find out for myself. I'm lazy in music and sometimes am stuck with my records of old in a timewarp called 'Frank'.
You remind me of a dear friend who gave me my very first listen of Pixies way back, he send me compilations every few weeks or so of people I never know exist, some good some lame (latest offering: Great lake Swimmers / the Minus 5 / Reigning Sound / Comets on fire / death from Above 1979 / Ray LaMontagne / Charles Caldwell / The sadies / Low / Quasi / Earlimart... etc etc blah blah blah...)
Oh and how could I miss out Nine Black Alps? Stupid me!
