We might have discussed this before, but is there any particular way in which you read the forum, and choose which topics to look at? Personally, I'll generally read (in order) General Frank Black Chat, Frank Black Making Noise, Here Comes Your Subbacultcha, Whatever Happened To Pong?, and finally General Chat. I'll usually skip the other forums, unless there's something I'm particularly interested in there (like, if I had just gone to a Pixies show, I'd want to know what other people thought of it).

As for what topics I read, I'll give pretty much everything a glance, but I usually won't come back to threads discussing:

Sports
Technical stuff (recording equipment, computer hardware, etc.)
Meet-ups and other events I couldn't possibly attend
Movies, books, TV shows, and bands I'm not familiar with (although I'll usually read these if I'm somewhat interested in becoming familiar with them, especially the band ones)

Whether I'll read long articles or click on links depends on what kind of mood I'm in, or how interesting they sound.

This is probably going to be really boring to most people here, but I thought it was worth a shot.

DISCLAIMER: Saying I'm not interested in certain kinds of threads does NOT mean I don't think people should keep making them, or that I have any kind of negative opinion toward those who do.

Active Topics isn't any good if you missed some posts last time you accessed the forum, though.

I usually read each forum individually when I first come to the forum, but then check the Active Topics after that. It might actually be easier to just start with Active Topics, though.

Heh, I went a period of 8 months without looking in the general chat. Then I briefly skimmed through all the topics, and other than the thread devoted to myself (which, by the way, thanks for derailing with your incessant Family Guy praise, you horrible piece of feces) the only one I might have revived was the one about Half Smiles.

And I hope it's obvious that I was kidding. Dean is a wonderful human being. Seriously.

Active topics is your friend. If I hadn't discovered it I'd never have bothered posting here.

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.

i like the Recent Topics feature under my profile. saves me a lot of time in the days that general chat is flooded with counter threads. i never visit the tabs section and i use the active topics for the rest of the forums, though i lost the last f.b appearance cause i never check the king holds court thread since it is regularly active with people asking questions.

Oh I must have read it wrong then. I thought it was just new topics started or topics posted in for that day. So what do I do now?

But... that's exactly what it is! I feel like I'm in an Abbott & Castello routine.

Aaah yes, that's it. But I want to check out all the topics, old and new, that have been posted in since I left.

I don't use active topics. I don't need to, I know where I'm up to.

Yeah, my routine is Active Topics then open every thread, interesting or not. If it looks uninterresting and/or there is nobody asking anything that would require my services or intervention (I skim so I doubtless miss some stuff), then I pop back only occassionally to see what's going on in there. If it's interesting, I get up to date and read the whole thing.

I definitely spend more time in threads I post in since it's more likely someone will be talking to me in there.

I work my way up from the bottom of the different forums, saving General Chat for last. Then, when I arrive in General chat, I read all of the threads with new posts from bottom to top.

The first thing I do is scan all active topics for the keyword "balls"

I'm with Mr. Cheese, that's what I do also.

I sometimes look at a profile and see new topics in which (s)he's posted.

Well as far as things go... I just really usually go backwards.

I read magazines backwards so thats how I usually go.

I usually start with general chat and then work my way up the forum.

Some times I get distracted and then I might check something twice.

If I am really bored then I will go back to general chat and then see if there is anything to post there.

For awhile when I was helping as a team member of the sight redesign... I would just check in there and post.

Somtimes though to switch it up I will start from the top down. Or if I am busy I might just read a certain thread.

Lately I haven't been visiting the What ever Happened to Pong thread and the Baby it's art thread.

As far as reading and following up with threads, I must admit that I am not always the best of going back to see after I posted anything happend. I am trying to get better at that.

I am probably more prone to reading a certain topic if the title sounds interesting. Also, for example, I love KOK's post so I always read all of those.
