The only way to get rid of temptation is to chew on things.

One of my esteemed colleagues is such a pen chewer that I've seen him snack casually on metal pens. If there isn't a pen to hand he will eat the cellophane wrappers off layout pads or any other industrially manufactured object that will fit into his mouth.

It's good for your teeth. Why do you think animals chew on things?

I used to chew pen caps, too. I might still, when I'm not really paying attention.

Heehee, me too monkeyboy.
You can always tell which pens are mine at work.
Real classy too when a client has to sign something.

Well its better than my bad habit of chewing my cuticles and hangnails until my fingers are a big bloody mess...

I have to admit, I sometimes bite 'em down instead of using a nail-clippers!:o I usually do that when I'm siting around playing guitar and me nails are too long. I hate that agonizing soreness If you cut them down to much-your nerve endings go crazy!
Doog Posted - 04/03/2005 : 02:32:36
Hell yeah, big time biter. Haven't actually cut my fingernails properly in maybe 7 years. I draw the line at toenails though. Oh, the indescribable cramps.

The shit you paint on your nails to stop you biting them doesn't work - you become immune and almost take perverse delight in the god awful taste.

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.

I quit smoking cigarettes after about 20 years.

I still chew my nails.
Word on the street is they make this shit that you can paint your nails with that will make you gut-wrenching sick.
I have not tried it.

I super-glue them before gigs now.
I know that sounds gross, but I'm a sort of Neil Young-ish player, so I can beat my fingers up pretty bad...the superglue just helps to prevent the whole 'sweaty-guitar-string-metalshavings-under the-nails' feeling - which can be very painful.
It works.
Super Glue is a medical adhesive, I don't care what anyone says.

never wanted to bite my nails, just makes me hungry so there is a chance that i could eat my entire fist, but then i do chew the inside of my cheeks when nervous...mmmmm

I wish i had a wooden heart that i could set on fire...
VoVat Posted - 04/02/2005 : 13:10:01
I fidget too much. I think I'm Kathyrn's worst nightmare.

I chew the inside of my cheeks all the time. More than
once I have bitten off a chunk accidentally. I never fidget,
though. Seeing someone fidget freaks me the fuck out.
It truly scares me.

yeah, i do. but not so much i have deformed fingers with like 5mm fingernails and just a lump of flesh at the end of my finger

I do, but I don't bite them into oblivion. I use my teeth as nail scissors, I make a perfect cut across every time. Looking at my nails you would never be able to tell. That's 37 years of practice for you.

Oh - just reminded myself - another charming habit to throw in amongst the hair twisting and odd bit of nail biting (which I am getting much much better at not doing) is the lip biting and chewing the insides of my cheeks.

Urgh - that makes me sound like I'm tearing my hair out and pretty much self cannibalising

Shame on me, I do, I wish I didn't...because I'll never have those good looking hands and nails.

It's a great look, and one I do often, especially when I'm up against deadline, which is oh, about once a day minimum - random mini dreads sticking out at odd angles, fingers in mouth.

ditto!

If I'm revising for exams (both tired and concentrating) or writing a large piece of work or sitting an exam the nails get damaged and the hair gets twisted

No, I never have. I used to chew on my pencil, though.

I used to, but I went cold-turkey 5 or so years ago and haven't bitten since. Damn glad I did, too..it's a disgusting habit.

Cracking my knuckles/anything else I can, however...I haven't managed to say no to crack.
