Posted - 03/30/2005 : 20:51:55 I just happened to notice that kathryn has, like one of the highest number of posts on this board, but hasn't been on even a year. so I compared her posts per day vs. floop, who I know is one of the original members and posts alot, and still, she has double the amount of posts per day as he does. forgive my poor english- I've been packing to move all day. so I started browsing the member stats, and was curious to see where I fall, and I was surprised to find out that even though I post little for the amount of time I've been a member, I'm fairly highly ranked (#144) because there are tons of people that join, but never post.
according to my highly scientific methods,
there are 3409 people who have never posted,
and 6225 who have posted 20 times or less. |

Probably both. Personally, I'm a pretty bad lurker. If I read the threads on a forum, I'll usually want to throw in my two cents on some of them. On the other hand, there are plenty of forums that I signed up for and forgot about, or got bored with.

Posted - 04/07/2005 : 20:29:13 I wonder about all the people that join but don't post- do they lurk, or just lose interest and forget about the site? It's easy to get absorbed in other sites- I'm sure I don't differ from other people that this is sort of like t.v. the entertainment part of using the computer when I've had enough work for the day- or need a break. But I've been absorbed in my group blog lately. I forgot I started this thread until a few minutes ago. |

Regardng the posting stats, I've been amazed that almost from the beginning of this site, the ratio of members posting to total members has hovered quite close to one to two. In fact, I think that the percentage posting has ranged between 49 and 51%, mostly slightly below 50% with an extended bulge above 50% last year when all the reunion news broke. The consistency of the ratio has really been surprising, though I guess the statisticians would say it's what we might expect.
Good to hear from you Dave.

Posted - 03/31/2005 : 06:42:04 The site hasn't been around that long and when/before the Pixies reunion was announced, we were THE only site around, so that's understandable. Thankfully, PixiesMusic has filled that need because there was awhile there where we were completely burned out trying to keep up.

Who were your other forum identities?
The only other account I have ever had was Hordak, who I sorely miss. (And Little Black Francis posted once or twice using Hordak's account). The Hordak personality was really fun to play with (in a don't have a life, pathetic sort of way.) He had a fictional name, job (working for the History Channel no less) and a personality that would just come to life like it was writing itself. Scary. Maybe glacial906 is the fiction? Anyway, the moderators didn't see the humor in Hordak and he was banned.
